Interview with Vocalist Adamo Fiscella of Ghostatic
By Mick Michaels
Cosmick View: Hello, Adamo! Welcome to The Cosmick View. Thanks for taking some time out of your day to speak with us. It's greatly appreciated.
CV:
What do you feel sets the band apart from other bands, especially those of
similar sound and style? What is the specific allure your sound and
style has that has other people taking notice?
Adamo
Fiscella: Sometimes I wish we sounded more like other bands so it would help us
describe the music…nah, I'm just playing LOL. We have a very unique
approach in sound and delivery. I pull from modern production values that
are in today's electronic music. The melodic and vocal approach is also less
predictable than most of the new bands you hear.
CV: For
any band, dynamics is key to grabbing an audience's attention. What do you feel
is the main ingredient to having such a captivating dynamic and being able to bring
something more to the music?
AF:
It is vocal centric with lots of interesting layering and textures and harmonies.
Vocal character is something that is definitely lacking in the rock world these
days.
CV:
How would you describe the ultimate musical experience
for your fans? And how does the band go about creating that musical
vision, while generating the impact the band wants to have on its
audience?
AF:
Personally, I like when songs are performed differently live…which is what we
do. The live versions of our songs are with more guitars and real drums…more
raw than produced.
CV: The
music business has always been one that regardless of who you are, where you
came from or where you've been, you can either sink or swim. Does this
type of realism have any effect on how the band drives itself to succeed?
AF:
Hard work beats out talent all day in the industry, which is why music,
generally, is less creative. True artists aren't so cut throat and money
hungry. More business minded bands are succeeding.
CV:
In your opinion, is there any middle ground for a band or is it a do or die
climate in today's music industry?
AF:
When it comes to rock bands, there really isn't a middle ground... you are
either losing money or barely breaking even. Or you're at the top
bringing in the big bucks.
CV:
How would you describe the band's internal energy? Does the band’s outward
appearance align with its true inward nature from your perspective?
AF:
We don't go to extremes with our image. Lighting is a big deal though. Who
knows…that might change.
CV:
What's at the core of the band's songwriting approach? Are there
certain elements that are considered when a song begins to take form and
evolves?
AF:
I write everything, it's painstaking. We might try group writing at some point.
I do all the production, mixing, and mastering…a one man show in that sense.
CV:
Do you allow things to just happen when writing; seeing where a song goes, or
is there a certain course of action and structure you keep a song on, thus,
essentially making it destined to achieve its overall potential?
AF:
It usually starts with an acoustic guitar and a vocal melody. It's crazy
if you hear where the production ends up!
CV:
Do you feel how the fans and critics describe the band’s music accurately
reflects how you would describe the band’s music?
AF:
I've heard it all. We get a lot. Like I said, it is hard to put us in a box.
CV:
Walk us through a typical show for the band...what can fans who have never
seen you perform expect?
AF:
Lots of nudity and fire!
CV:
What more can fans look forward to seeing coming from the band?
AF:
Worldwide domination via subversion.
CV: Thank you again Adamo for spending some time talking and sharing with our readers. I wish you all the best and continued success.
