Interview with Aidan Amini of Slaves to Humanity
By Mick Michaels
COSMICK VIEW: Hello, Aidan! Welcome to The Cosmick View. Thank you for taking some time out of your day to chat with me, it is greatly appreciated.
CV: What do you
feel sets the band apart from other bands, especially those of similar sound
and style? What's the specific allure your sound and style have that
has people taking notice?
Aidan Amini: I feel like the music is
unique and sets us apart because it reminds people of the classic
heavy-hitting hard rock from the early 90s, with a newer modern approach!
CV: For any
band, dynamics is key to grabbing an audience's attention. What do you feel is
the main ingredient to having such a captivating dynamic and being able to
bring something more to the music?
AA: Style is something that many bands
struggle with... including ours... but from what we've seen through years of
trying to figure out our own look, being unique is key! Whatever that means to
the individual is up for interpretation, but regardless, a captivating style is
a UNIQUE one.
CV: How would you describe the ultimate musical
experience for your fans? And how does the band go about
creating that musical vision, while generating the impact the band wants
to have on its audience?
AA: I'd say that the ultimate music
experience is a killer show with amazing music that anybody could dance to! We
try to do that through the music we write! We try to make sure that songs we
write are fun live for us and the audience!
CV: The music
business has always been one that regardless of who you are, where you came
from or where you've been, you can either sink or swim. Does this type of
realism have any effect on how the band drives itself to succeed?
AA: Yes, it affects the band A LOT.
There are times when we feel that everything is amazing, and we couldn't fail
even if we tried, but then there are times when we felt that the best option
could just be to quit. This is the rollercoaster that everybody goes through
with every job, but one that everybody must experience.
CV: In your
opinion, is there any middle ground for a band or is it a do or die climate in
today's music industry?
AA: Nowadays bands are not easy to
break. Many of the older generations believe that rock music is dead, but the
truth is, the younger generation just haven’t really experienced it for
themselves, which is why I believe it's tough to break a band in 2022, but
that's not to say that you can't make good money playing music, and there are
tons of alternatives that don't require you to work to break a band!
CV:
How would you describe the band's internal energy? Does the band’s outward
appearance align with its true inward nature from your perspective?
AA: The band's
outward appearance doesn't totally tell you exactly who we are. All 4 of us are
funny, stupid, and hyper like you'd expect a bunch of teenagers to be!
CV: What's at the
core of the band's songwriting approach? Are there certain elements that
are considered when a song begins to take form and evolves?
AA: When writing a song, really nothing
is off-limits. We write a bunch of different songs that can range in sounds. One
thing that we always try to keep in mind is how it'll sound live!
CV: Do you allow
things to just happen when writing; seeing where a song goes, or is there a
certain course of action and structure you keep a song on, thus, essentially
making it destined to achieve its overall potential?
AA: All the time!!! I believe that
letting things happen just ends up with a better song. I don't think you can
ever go wrong with continuing to work on a kick ass song.
CV: Do you feel how
the fans and critics describe the band’s music accurately reflects how you
would describe the band’s music?
AA: I think that so far fans and
critics think on the same brainwave as us! They're seedy and is what we go for
in the music!
CV: Walk us through
a typical show for the band...what can fans who have never seen you
perform expect?
AA: A typical show for us usually plays
out as follows... we get to the venue, set our stuff up... and all either go
mess around until our set time, or Nate reads, I take a nap, and Pierce and
Shane go out and do their own thing!! Once we get on stage though, we're all
ready to put on our best performance, and we try our hardest to make every
performance unique, fun, and special!
CV: What more can
fans look forward to seeing coming from the band?
AA: I can't totally say a bunch... but
we've got some new stuff coming out on YouTube as well as a lot more songs
ready to go... it's just a matter of timing for us, but fans can ALWAYS look
forward to us doing more shows!
CV:
Thank you again Aidan for
spending some time talking and sharing with our readers. I wish you all the
best and continued success.
AA: Thank you so much for having me and featuring STH
in your magazine!! It really means a lot to us.
