Interview with the Band Alborn
COSMICK
VIEW: Hello! Welcome to The Cosmick View. Thank you for taking some
time out of your day to chat with me, it is greatly appreciated.
CV:
What do you feel sets the band apart from other bands, especially those of
similar sound and style? What specific allure does your sound and
style have that has people taking notice?
Alborn: Our authenticity is one of the main things that we've always taken great pride in, on and off the stage. This reflects in our music as well as our character. We write and perform our music in an organic fashion that is comfortable to us. Our 7-string drop tuning has our methods of creation wrapped around it's finger, and has been a primary factor in creating what we believe is unique.

CV: For
any band, dynamics is key to grabbing an audience's attention. What do you feel
is the main ingredient to having such a captivating dynamic and being able to
bring something more to the music?
Alborn: The power and groove in our music primarily comes from our blend of hard-hitting riffs and powerful, catchy vocals. We spend a lot of time ensuring that every part is precise and that every instrument is complimenting each other when writing and performing our songs.

CV:
How would you describe the ultimate musical experience
for your fans? And how does the band go about creating that musical
vision, while generating the impact the band wants to have on its
audience?
Alborn: Our down-tuned, hard-hitting riffs and melodic leads with both clean and unclean vocals gives us many tools at our disposal to be able to create a unique flow and vibe in our music. We want the listener to be able to feel the drama and emotion from part to part the same as we do, and do our best to encapsulate that in as many ways as we can.

CV: The
music business has always been one that regardless of who you are, where you
came from or where you've been, you can either sink or swim. Does this
type of realism have any effect on how the band drives itself to succeed?
Alborn: Most definitely. Everything WE do at this stage requires constant effort from the band, if you want to succeed that is. There are always others out there that are willing to put in the work to get ahead if you are not.

CV:
In your opinion, is there any middle ground for a band or is it a do or die
climate in today's music industry?
Alborn: In these times, there are endless "tiers" of bands in every genre. Some prefer to be where they are, while others are still working their way up the ladder. To us, every big show we play, every new song we put out, etc. feels like a milestone that puts us one step closer to our end-game.

CV:
How would you describe the band's internal energy? Does the band’s outward
appearance align with its true inward nature from your perspective?
Alborn: We've all been best friends since we've landed on this line-up. We spend tons of time together in and outside of the band, which definitely reflects when it's time to work. It makes for a comfortable and efficient environment that benefits us in many ways. We feel that's a pretty easy thing to see when we're at a show or out in public as we all usually travel in a pack and interact cooperatively.

CV:
What's at the core of the band's songwriting approach? Are there
certain elements that are considered when a song begins to take form and
evolves?
Alborn: Most of the time we just start with a simple idea introduced by one of the members and try to evolve and grow it organically. We don't normally stick to a specific formula unless the situation demands it.

CV:
Do you allow things to just happen when writing; seeing where a song goes, or
is there a certain course of action and structure you keep a song on, thus,
essentially making it destined to achieve its overall potential?
Alborn: Sort of the same as the previous answer, we typically just let it flow. After we get a solid foundation going we will start going back through and fine-tuning each part to make it sound as good as it can.

CV:
Do you feel how the fans and critics describe the band’s music accurately
reflects how you would describe the band’s music?
Alborn: It's usually pretty accurate. Typically, a critic or journalist's first instinct is to compare us to something else they've heard, rightfully so. This kind of gives a new listener a starting point to know what style of music it touches on. We've heard many, many different comparisons, but when one makes their own conclusions and interpretations of our sound is always our favorite to read.

CV:
Walk us through a typical show for the band...what can fans who have never
seen you perform expect?
Alborn: Currently, it's all authentic. Everything you hear is being played…no backing tracks or click tracks…short intros with little time between songs. We try to have a good mixture of songs to appeal to as many in the crowd as possible. But, you can bet we're always going to come out swinging, and rock out as hard as we can until our time is up.

What more can fans look forward to seeing coming from the band?
Alborn: So, so much. We have so much music ready to release, have tour plans in the works, and want to hit the ground running when the world finally fully welcomes the entirety of the music industry back after the pandemic.

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word. Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
