Interview with the Band Show Your Face (Greece)
By Mick Michaels
The Cosmick View: Hello, and welcome to The Cosmick View/MBM Ten Pounder! Thanks for taking some time to chat with us!
CV:
Describe your definition of the band’s sound and style and how does that
definition uniquely describe the music?
Show Your Face: We are a Groove Hardcore metal band from Karditsa, Greece. Currently, the band is consisted of Huge (vocals, bass), Kostas Karageorgos (guitar), Achilleas Koutras (guitar). Our style has changed over the years, as we evolved. We began as a Thrashcore metal band and, then, we added Progressive elements, in our Groove and Melodic 3rd Album. Our new album will be more Deathcore, but without losing our original style.
CV: Today, everyone talks about artist and audience connection. Is such a level of connection actually achievable for an artist and if so, how have you made the connection to your fans?
Show Your Face: Live shows have always been crucial for a band in order to connect with their fans. On the other hand, connecting with your audience is probably the most difficult thing because in our opinion, it is key to be true to yourself and your fans. When I say true to yourself and your fans, I mean first of all musically, because unfortunately, many bands cannot perform their songs live the same way as in their albums.

As
well, personality wise, you need to be one with your fans. And with that said,
it is primarily important to be, yourself, a fan of your own music. In our
opinion, someone who sees their audience only as a job or only as a source of
money, especially in music industry, has already failed.
CV:
Is fan interaction an important part of the band’s inner culture?
Show Your Face: It is probably the most important element in the mixture, in order to have the passion and keep on. However, this does not mean that you will play exactly what the audience wants. It is equally important to have your own character and be true to yourself and not just going with the flow, as that would make you one of the many. Therefore, it is vital that you share the music, that you believe in and it is a part of your soul…with the world.

CV:
Can a band truly interact with its fans and still maintain a level of personal
privacy without crossing the line and giving up their “personal space” in your
opinion?
Show Your Face: Often times, when a band becomes instantly famous, they find themselves unable to handle this popularity. A number of bands come to mind, that they became famous from one day to another and then they failed because of the results of overconfidence and being full of themselves. On the other hand, we are firm believers that when this comes smoothly and steadily, then becomes part of your life and you get used to it, it’s easier and better.

CV:
Is music, and its value, viewed differently around the world in your
opinion? If so, what do you see as the
biggest difference in such multiple views among various cultures?
Show Your Face: Generally speaking, I would like to say yes, there are differences in the perception of music worldwide. However, this is more accurate for pop music that is more provisional, rather than to more extreme kinds of music, like Metal. Additionally nowadays, music is easily shared internationally with platforms like YouTube and as a result of the technology. In metal music I don’t believe there is such difference, because for us, in the metal community that we are more faithful to our music values and more bonded as a community. Metal music is still the most special, but at the same time the most stable music, in value globally!

CV:
Do you feel that a band that has an international appeal, will tend to connect
more so to American audiences? Would they be more enticed or intrigued to see
the band over indigenous acts because of the foreign flavor?
Show Your Face: Generally, in the States, you see more people going to live events and supporting their favorite bands this way. However, I don’t think that this applies in our music style. Particularly, in more extreme genres, the lyrics are overruled by the music and the vibe and the lyrics are not as easy to distinguish. And I am saying this in the less scandalous way!

Has modern-day digital technology made everyone an artist on some level in your
opinion? Have the actual lines of what really is an artist been blurred?
Show Your Face: Like it or not, this is a reality nowadays and affects all artists and creators. It is also one of the reasons why music industry has changed forever. Of course, platforms like YouTube and Spotify are great tools for artists. The last years, due to the pandemic, have been challenging for everyone I think…especially for artists, like musicians, to be in touch with the people and to play the music that we love. So instead, the majority focused on recording and experimental projects. When everyone can create and record music, if a song is good, it doesn’t matter how it was written or recorded. In our opinion, the big difference and the most challenging part is if the song can be performed the same way live. That is the tricky one! If on stage a song cannot be performed or differs a lot from the recording can be a disappointment to the people. On the positive aspects though, there are one person bands that do only digital productions and we do support this type of projects!

this should not an excuse not to look forward and work hard for the music you
love!
CV:
How would you describe the difference between an artist who follows trends and
one who sets them?
Show Your Face: I could give a recent example, the band Spiritbox; they have been doing really great and we follow their work. However, without ever being on a stage before, they are planning a world tour. We do like and support the band, I am just trying to use an example here that having your own budget and focusing on social media is the only way, nowadays. The great labels of the past are now past and they focus on different aspects and projects. And I believe that many bands and musicians out there will relate with what I am going to say, but talent itself is not enough to make you heard. The right connections and budget are also necessary!

CV:
Has music overall been splintered into too many sub-genres in an effort to
appease fan tastes in your opinion? And has such fan appeasements, in
actuality, weakened music’s impact as a whole by dividing audiences?
Show Your Face: These subspecies have affected and confused a big part of the audience. However, often times these subspecies have been created by the audience itself! Ironic huh?! Nevertheless, I don’t believe that you would ask a band and they will tell you that they play djent, dark black hardcore death, grind? They would simple answer we play Death metal, or Thrash metal! Every band considers their music their child and consequently, the most special there is out there!

CV:
What can fans except to see coming next from you?
Show Your Face: This year we are releasing our 4th album! At the moment we are in the studio recording. This album has strong Deathcore influences and includes 8 songs. 7 new songs and our Single “Shot at Dawn”, which is already available on YouTube! We are planning to release one more song before the release of the album…so STAY TUNED!!!

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word. Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
