Interview with the Band MoGa

By Mick Michaels

COSMICK VIEW: Hello! Welcome to The Cosmick View. Thank you for taking some time out of your day to chat with me, it's greatly appreciated.
MoGa: My pleasure.

CV: Every artist experiences highs and lows. Many struggle just to move from one level to the next, and some, unfortunately, never do. What would you consider to be a pivotal point in an artist's career which would take them from one level to the next that a struggling artist should be aware of? Is it an individual mindset or does it equate more to opportunity?  Or is it something all together different in your opinion?
MoGa: The struggle to move forward is always there. This is relevant for all artists, regardless if they are newcomers or already well-established, influential artistic entities. To my mind, navigating the complex terrain of a creative career involves first and foremost a strong individual mindset, which subsequently would lead to seizing opportunities. Success in the world of art is not something easily measurable as the art world is complex, subjective and sadly, sometimes cruel. With dedication and commitment to pursue the next level, every artist can ascend to new levels of achievement.

CV: What do you feel an artist can do right now to stay relevant, especially in an environment, such as the present, where performing in front of a live audience is not an option?
MoGa: Performing live is an important aspect of our art. We invest 100% of our energy in each and every show we play. Of course, social media and streaming platforms also play a huge role in today’s industry, so I’d use the opportunity to urge your readers to check out our links (see below) and consider following/subscribing, or even purchasing an album or our official band merch. It is a great way to support us.

CV: What have you found to be the balancing point between relevance and over saturation when it comes to being an artist? Is there a fine line between the two or can it be looked at to some degree as the two essentially being one in the same?
MoGa: I don’t see it as a conflict. We focus on the very essence of being an artist – creating music and playing it for everyone to hear. Our sound has not been shaped to take after any particular model. It is a mirror of our musical face, which is why we don’t see it as a struggle for relevance. It is organic and authentic – it’s us.

CV: Is there any level of consideration, or even concern, to deliver on expectations, whether it being your own or that of the fans, when working on new material?
MoGa: Not really. Our music hasn’t been written to meet anyone’s expectations, other than our own. It comes directly from the heart and soul.

CV: For you, what’s first when it comes to songwriting…is it a matter of lyrics melody, chords, beat, attitude? Or is it more organic than that where the moment dictates the process and outcome?
MoGa: It is about the entirety of the sound, including the production process. The riffs, the beats (and we have a fair share of jaw-dropping blast beats), the melodies, the vocals, the electronic elements… They all play an important role in what comes out as the final release. This is why we took our time with the record to perfect every aspect of it and craft it the way we wanted it to sound.

CV: What do you believe makes songwriting more honest and impactful...that something that both the artist and listener can share?

MoGa: It has to me organic and authentic. We are proud to say that our music strays off the beaten path and wanders off to uncharted territory. It is truly experimental and this cannot be overheard by the seasoned listener.

CV: What do you feel has been the greatest contribution to your success as an artist?
MoGa: Just going on, despite all challenges, roadblocks and setbacks. We made it, our album “Where Do You Come From” is out there and we are thrilled about it.

CV: What's next for you? What can fans expect to see coming up?
MoGa: More live shows and possibly a second album in the future.

CV: Thank you again for spending some time talking and sharing with
our readers. I wish you all the best and continued success.
MoGa: Great chatting with you! Take care!

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
