Interview with the Band Monkey Intrusion

By Mick Michaels

The Cosmick View: Hello, and welcome to The Cosmick View/MBM Ten Pounder! Thanks for taking some time to chat with us!
Monkey Intrusion: Hi guys! It’s great being here talking to you!

CV: Describe your definition of the band’s sound and style and how does that definition uniquely describe the music?
Monkey Intrusion: Well, we’d say that’s hard giving a definition of our music…we create a blend of genres to match the emotions we’re trying to convey. What certainly is recognizable on all the tracks is the sound that is…well, hard rock, classic hard rock!

CV: Today, everyone talks about artist and audience connection. Is such a level of connection actually achievable for an artist and if so, how have you made the connection to your fans?
Monkey Intrusion: It’s a difficult question, really. Let’s say that the connection you make while on stage comes pretty naturally and tends to create a bond that continues on. Social media though are by definition more impersonal so we don’t know if that creates a real connection.

CV: Is fan interaction an important part of the band’s inner culture?
Monkey Intrusion: Again, live performances require a high degree of interaction and in this case it is paramount for us what happens with our fans. On social media it’s great to read the thoughts and impressions on our music but strangely enough we feel more shy in responding to the fans.

CV: Can a band truly interact with its fans and still maintain a level of personal privacy without crossing the line and giving up their “personal space” in your opinion?
Monkey Intrusion: Probably it depends on the level of success you've achieved. The more famous you are, the harder it is. Unfortunately, we haven't had the problem yet! (Laughs)

CV: Is music, and its value, viewed differently around the world in your opinion?  If so, what do you see as the biggest difference in such multiple views among various cultures?
Monkey Intrusion: Definitely so! Since music is a peculiar trait of a culture you have multiple ways to approach it, so it’s very hard to point out one big difference! Just one thing remains the same all over the world the fact that music stirs emotions.

CV: Do you feel that a band that has an international appeal, will tend to connect more so to American audiences? Would they be more enticed or intrigued to see the band over indigenous acts because of the foreign flavor?
Monkey Intrusion: We’d say that it’s pretty likely…well, the history of rock music taught us so. Certainly, as for the previous question, the peculiar trait of a given culture will lead the artist in different directions than those of another culture and that can certainly intrigue audiences.

CV: Has modern-day digital technology made everyone an artist on some level in your opinion? Have the actual lines of what really is an artist been blurred?
Monkey Intrusion: It’s a big no in both cases. Maybe digital technology has helped somebody to express themselves in an easier way than before but art does not depend on technology rather on the inner part of the artist.

CV: How would you describe the difference between an artist who follows trends and one who sets them?
Monkey Intrusion: Well, that’s another fine and hard question! Probably the true artist is the one that sets trends…where the others are very good in exploring the depths of those trends.

CV: Has music overall been splintered into too many sub-genres in an effort to appease fan tastes in your opinion? And has such fan appeasements, in actuality, weakened music’s impact as a whole by dividing audiences?
Monkey Intrusion: In this case it’s a big yes on both issues! Our opinion is that so many sub-genres are artificial, totally. You certainly have the main genres but the different approaches on those by different artists should be considered nuances that add to the richness of that genre. As a result you have actually weakened the messages of music because the fans are less willing to explore along with the artists.

CV: What can fans expect to see coming next from you?
Monkey Intrusion: Well, we will continue to release more singles waiting for the right moment to come out with the full album. Meanwhile we’re preparing the gigs for the next season.

CV: Thanks again for taking some time and talking. It is greatly appreciated.
Monkey Intrusion: It’s been great having had this chat with you, thanks!
