Interview with the Band Artifier

By Mick Michaels

The Cosmick View: Hello, and welcome to The Cosmick View/MBM Ten Pounder! Thanks for taking some time to chat with us!

CV: Describe your definition of the band’s sound and style and how does that definition uniquely describe the music?
Artifer: Theatrical asylum aesthetics with a punk rock and metalcore sound. We'd like to think that all of that adds up to a larger than life experience with our music in general.

CV: Today, everyone talks about artist and audience connection. Is such a level of connection actually achievable for an artist and if so, how have you made the connection to your fans?
Artifer: With how important social media is in people’s lives nowadays it’s both easier and harder than ever to reach that connection. It’s absolutely achievable but it needs to be approached differently. For us, we mostly use our live shows to connect with our fans.

CV: Is fan interaction an important part of the band’s inner culture?
Artifer: Absolutely! Even our songwriting takes fan interactions into mind so that everyone feels a part of the family at our shows.

CV: Can a band truly interact with its fans and still maintain a level of personal privacy without crossing the line and giving up their “personal space” in your opinion?
Artifer: It’s a fine line but moderation is key…it’s absolutely doable if maybe difficult.

CV: Is music, and its value, viewed differently around the world in your opinion?  If so, what do you see as the biggest difference in such multiple views among various cultures?
Artifer: To a certain degree for sure. I think one of the biggest differences is the respect for an artist's privacy between the western and eastern worlds.

CV: Do you feel that a band that has an international appeal, will tend to connect more so to American audiences? Would they be more enticed or intrigued to see the band over indigenous acts because of the foreign flavor?
Artifer: Depends. Most of the time…with some exceptions of artists and genres, American audiences tend to prefer American acts over for example European acts. The foreign flavor doesn't seem to factor too much in their choices.

CV: Has modern-day digital technology made everyone an artist on some level in your opinion? Have the actual lines of what really is an artist been blurred?
Artifer: Definitely! And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. More and more people have access to creating music and that has definitely enriched the world of music. To truly stand out now, an artist has to really have something special and unique to them. At the same time, way more acts have the possibility to just enjoy success on a smaller scale.

CV: How would you describe the difference between an artist who follows trends and one who sets them?
Artifer: The ability to not care and keep doing what they love and want in music.

CV: Has music overall been splintered into too many sub-genres in an effort to appease fan tastes in your opinion? And has such fan appeasements, in actuality, weakened music’s impact as a whole by dividing audiences?
Artifer: Honestly it seems lately that musical acts and the music industry in general…at least on the rock side, seem to be forsaking genres in general. More and more acts just write music that they like without worrying whether or not they fit a certain genre or not. That in turn has also found fans from different cliques finding a common interest in these acts and songs, which is something we’re definitely excited to see.

CV: What can fans expect to see coming next from you?
Artifer: A new single towards the end of the year, many live shows and much more next year!

CV: Thanks again for taking some time and talking. It is greatly appreciated.
Artifer: We extend our gratitude for this opportunity!

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
