Interview with Guitarist Zack Miranowic of Disciples of Verity
By Mick Michaels
COSMICK VIEW: Hello, Zack! Welcome to The Cosmick View. Thank you for taking some time out of your day to chat with me, it is greatly appreciated.
CV:
What do you feel sets the band apart from other bands, especially those of
similar sound and style? What's the specific allure your sound and
style have that has people taking notice?
Zack Miranowic: What I think sets us apart from other bands is our contrast between the musical composition and Corey’s vocals. Corey is a very melodic singer, which I prefer, but he knows how to let loose when called for. I like the fact that, in the grand scheme of things, we are somewhere between the lines of balls out heaviness and squeaky-clean melodies. It can be pretty and melodic, but also pack a hell of a punch!

CV: For any band, dynamics is key to grabbing an audience's attention. What do you feel is the main ingredient to having such a captivating dynamic and being able to bring something more to the music?
ZM: In my opinion, the most important thing is that each member brings a unique and insightful personality to the music. A willingness to try new things and experimentation is always the best way to achieve the best possible outcome.
CV: How would you describe the ultimate musical experience for your fans? And how does the band go about creating that musical vision, while generating the impact the band wants to have on its audience?
ZM: The ultimate experience for the fan is, in my opinion, something tangible. Something that speaks to you on an emotional level without be overly contrived. As well as something that moves you mentally and physically. There is nothing better than a band that you can blow off some steam to while indulging in some thought-provoking lyricism.
CV: The music business has always been one that regardless of who you are, where you came from or where you've been, you can either sink or swim. Does this type of realism have any effect on how the band drives itself to succeed?
ZM: I think we tend to stay within the scope of realism. It’s easy to get caught up in becoming the next big thing and you will never really know what is going to take the music industry by surprise. We take it one day at a time and make the music we want to hear for ourselves.
CV: In your opinion, is there any middle ground for a band or is it a do or die climate in today's music industry?
ZM: I think there definitely is an all or nothing mentality. The problem is that there aren’t any specific guidelines on what to do or what not to do in this industry. I think it’s always important to see what’s going on with current bands and trends, but doing what they do isn’t necessarily a must.
CV: How would you describe the band's internal energy? Does the band’s outward appearance align with its true inward nature from your perspective?
ZM: Yes. I’d say what you see is what you get. 5 regular dudes doing what they do best…the best way we can. The bottom line is that it’s all about the music.
CV: What's at the core of the band's songwriting approach? Are there certain elements that are considered when a song begins to take form and evolves?
ZM: Every band has a unique songwriting process. I’ve come to find that it usually starts with about 1 or 2 riffs that we like, and we get together and throw things at the wall to see what sticks. Sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s a wash. Whether it’s just two of us or a full rehearsal, we are always experimenting with where the song can go next…maybe a melody line here or a stop here to set up for the next part. It’s all about the details and how to best get to the next part.
CV: Do you allow things to just happen when writing; seeing where a song goes, or is there a certain course of action and structure you keep a song on, thus, essentially making it destined to achieve its overall potential?
ZM: We have a general formula for writing songs. We usually start with about one to three riffs and try to label them as a verse, chorus, and bridge. Once we get an arrangement that feels natural to us, we start figuring out layers to add interest and cues that will set up for the following riff. Once the music is mostly done and recorded, Corey Glover will come in play around with some vocal ideas that hears could fit the song. Sometimes it’s just a chorus one day and a verse the next. However long it takes, I’d say we get a very nice result in the end.
CV: Do you feel how the fans and critics describe the band’s music accurately reflects how you would describe the band’s music?
ZM: I’d say so. I would describe the band as a balanced hybrid of sorts. We are all individually, very versatile musicians, and I would say that it shows in the music we write. We know how to be the crazy heavy/ punchy band, but we also know how to dial it back and let loose.
CV: Walk us through a typical show for the band...what can fans who have never seen you perform expect?
ZM: You can expect a lot of energy, sweat, and well written songs and melodies that you will have stuck in your head long after the show is over.
CV: What more can fans look forward to seeing coming from the band?
ZM: We are currently getting ready for our Fall 2021 tour, which kicks off in Brooklyn, NY on 10/20! We are also currently working on our second album and have roughly 6 songs written so far. Hopefully more of that to come sometime in 2022 or 2023.
CV: Thank you again Zack for spending some time talking and sharing with our readers. I wish you all the best and continued success.

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word. Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
