Interview with Reaven Lead Singer and Guitarist Romeo

By Mick Michaels

The Cosmick View: Hello, Romeo and welcome to The Cosmick View/MBM Ten Pounder! Thanks for taking some time to chat with us!

CV: Describe your definition of the band’s sound and style and how does that definition uniquely describe the music?

Romeo: I think that we do have very catchy compositions and a real personal Rock sound with a fresh touch of Electro. It means that you will sing a lot along with us during our shows and feel positive vibes!
CV: Today, everyone talks about artist and audience connection. Is such a level of connection actually achievable for an artist and if so, how have you made the connection to your fans?
Romeo: We are also trying to connect as much as we can with our fans! Via social networks, videos etc… but the most important is during our concerts, we do interact a lot with people when we give a show!

CV: Is fan interaction an important part of the band’s inner culture?
Romeo: Yes it is. I mean we play music to be in touch with our fans. You don’t play music to be cut from them… We always look to connect, so our work as musicians is for this interaction.

CV: Can a band truly interact with its fans and still maintain a level of personal privacy without crossing the line and giving up their “personal space” in your opinion?
Romeo: You have to be careful it’s true. The distance and proximity with your fans have to be clear. Never cross the line. But to me, it’s important to stay approachable.

CV: Is music, and its value, viewed differently around the world in your opinion?  If so, what do you see as the biggest difference in such multiple views among various cultures?
Romeo: Yes I think music is viewed in different ways around the world. I mean, music is part of a cultural background, of History. Music is a tradition, and like all traditions, there are differences.

CV: Do you feel that a band that has an international appeal, will tend to connect more so to American audiences? Would they be more enticed or intrigued to see the band over indigenous acts because of the foreign flavor?
Romeo: I think that being an international band makes things easier to connect to American audiences and with the rest of the world. There are no more frontiers when you have an international appeal. But it’s true that it’s often more appealing to see foreign bands. Because, you know it’s rare cause they won’t play often in your country, so it’s like a chance and a gift when you have the possibility to see an international band.

CV: Has modern-day digital technology made everyone an artist on some level in your opinion? Have the actual lines of what really is an artist been blurred?
Romeo: To me, technology never makes an artist. It’s only raw talent and work that makes someone an artist. Digital technology is a tool, a means to spread music and give some exposure, that’s true. But I deeply think that it has no link with the fact of being an artist at all.

CV: How would you describe the difference between an artist who follows trends and one who sets them?
Romeo: Following the trends to me is good if you want to answer an instant need. But you will never create an artist identity like this…and you won’t probably stay at the top in this way. To set a trend is way harder but it will surely make you live in the music industry longer as well…

CV: Has music overall been splintered into too many sub-genres in an effort to appease fan tastes in your opinion? And has such fan appeasements, in actuality, weakened music’s impact as a whole by dividing audiences?
Romeo: I think that today we need to put a word on everything. It’s the same with music. It’s becoming ridiculous to see how many sub-genres you can find. It’s like, do we really need to create hundreds of communities? To me, it’s the opposite of the music’s values.

CV: What can fans except to see coming next from you?
Romeo: Our next album “For Tomorrow” this year!!

CV: Thanks again Romeo for taking some time and talking. It is greatly appreciated.

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
