Interview with Artist Adam Lanceley
By Mick Michaels
Cosmick View: Hello, Adam! Welcome to The Cosmick View. Thanks for taking some time out of your day to speak with us. It's greatly appreciated.
CV: What do you feel is the allure your
music has over competing artists and bands in your genre? What has them taking
notice in your opinion?
Adam Lanceley: Firstly, I
think there's A LOT of music by artists and bands in a similar genre that has a
greater allure than mine - but thanks for the complement! Seriously though, only
so much is about the sound and the music. There's got to be something else in
the package that makes you stand out. With me it's my backstory and everything
I've had to overcome.
CV: Do you think internet radio is a valuable resource as a modern mainstream
outlet for both upcoming and established artists? If so, why and if not, why
not?
AL: I would say internet radio is a
valuable resource, purely because anything that helps get your music out there
is a good thing.
CV: In your opinion, can an artist truly be independent given an industry that
relies heavily on big budgets and massive fan appreciation?
AL: An artist can be as independent as they want I
think. If they want to be successful though, there are restrictions, so sooner
or later if you're going to keep making music the independence diminishes.
You've got to tailor it so that you are saying what you want to say, but also
making it appeal to as many people as possible.
CV: Tell us a little about your current project? What can listeners
expect to hear? What makes it stand out in your opinion?
AL: I'm really happy with this album,
'Over the Horizon.' It feels like the culmination of a journey and I think what
listeners can expect to hear is an ongoing development of my musical style
since the beginning. Personally I think what sets this apart is it seems to
resolve an awful lot of the questions I was asking in earlier material.
CV: Music has a way of expressing things that words sometimes seem to fail at.
How has music helped you better express yourself?
AL: That's a good question. As a person
I'm very insecure and lack confidence. Before
music I did a lot of acting for the same reason that took me on to singing and
songwriting - it felt like an escape from myself where these inhibitions didn't
bother me. Music is a step deeper into the psyche in my opinion. The places
that can't be touched by words can be moved by melodies.
CV: What do you feel your music is saying
to the world? And do you feel that message is being heard?
AL: For me my music is communicating
something I feel I've got to let the world know. Songs are always more
interesting when the listener can interpret them to mean what they want them to
mean though. I think it vastly increases interest factor.
CV: What do you believe your greatest asset is as an artist? How have you seen
that asset benefit yourself and others?
AL: My greatest asset...ummmm...I don't
know. It's easy as well as tempting to say something like my creative flair and
ability to put intricate tunes together. But there are masses of other people
with that ability as well as other skills that far outweigh mine that no one
knows about. A better answer would be my tenacity. People rarely get anywhere
unless they work at it.
CV: What more can fans expect to see coming from you in the near future?
CV: Thanks again Adam for taking the time to share with our readers. We wish
you all the best and continued success.
AL: Thanks, really interesting questions
to answer!
