Interview with Armagelion

By Mick Michaels

Cosmick view: Hello again! Welcome back to The Cosmick View. Thank you for taking some time out of your day to chat with me, it's greatly appreciated.

CV: Please give us a brief update on yourself, the music and about what’s currently going on since we last spoke.

Armagelion: ARMAGELION comes from my fascination with fantasy and Sci-Fi. He is the character I always dreamed of, but never saw before. I wanted to be more than a singer…a larger than life hero, a mythological being.

The project has been around for two years, but the idea of ARMAGELION came more than 10 years ago. I wanted to combine theatricality with pure hard rock with reminiscence about the 80s.

I've released three singles so far as a preview of my upcoming EP.

CV: Given so many major changes over the last decade, do you believe the music industry is a practicable and stable enough environment for new artists to even consider making it a valid career choice? Can a level of sustainable success really be achieved in your opinion?
Armagelion: Of course! Nowadays it is even easier to be able to make a career with your music. There are many tools out there for independent artists today, which if used correctly will contribute to your success. However, the use of tools is not enough. It takes talent, work, a fresh proposal and a lot of discipline.

CV: What do you see as the biggest change in the music industry since you first started out?
Armagelion: Not long ago, platforms like TikTok or Instagram didn't even exist…Facebook was still very rudimentary. The way to listen to an artist was to buy the album or watch it on YouTube, and YouTube was in its infancy. Today it is necessary to be present on every platform where your audience is…social media is a key tool in any strategy today.

CV: How do you see your music separating itself from your peers and avoiding just being another cog in the wheel?
Armagelion: I think that to be someone in this industry you need to offer something fresh and different. Making good music is no longer enough, especially when there are already so many decades of great artists and great music. ARMAGELION is an experience. It is not enough to listen to him, you have to see him and enter his world and his culture…a larger than life character, a heavy metal hero.

CV: Has the industry’s many changes affected how you write music? Has it influenced your songwriting style in any drastic form?
Armagelion: Absolutely not. I write my music in an honest way and without pretense or wanting to follow any trends. If you are honest with yourself, people will notice and then believe in what you offer. And that is what I have done from the beginning.

CV: Has digital technology led the way for almost anyone to be a musical artist in your opinion?
Armagelion: Technology helps a lot and is an invaluable tool if you know how to use it. However, people have to understand that technology does not give you talent. Many people think that being on YouTube, TikTok or Instagram makes you an artist, but no platform or technology will give you talent or discipline.

CV: Has music in general been broken into too many sub-genres? Why do think there are so many classifications of music types? Can this be confusing for an artist who is looking to build a brand? As well, can it be confusing for the fans?
Armagelion: I think a lot of people, not having a clear idea of
what they do and what they want to do, end up coming up with a horrible name to call whatever they play.

Seriously, every day there are new genres increasingly rare. What’s next…industrial zoophilic satanic fetishist metal? (Laughs)

Good music connects with the masses whatever name you give it.

CV: How would you define “iconic” when it comes to being an artist or musician? What do you think makes an artist iconic?
Armagelion: I think that being an iconic artist goes beyond good music and having one or two hits. You have to be memorable, have magnetism, leave a mark and make yourself unforgettable. That's why not everyone gets it.

CV: Who would you consider to be a modern day “rock star?” And is being a “rock star” something to aspire to?
Armagelion: I think being a rock star is very relative and stereotyped. I think a true star is defined by what they do on stage, not by their lifestyle and behaving like a complete idiot.

CV: Does music need to have a message to convey to the world for it to be worth listening to in your opinion?

Armagelion: Absolutely not. Many great songs have no message at all and are true anthems. Music is about connecting with people, feeling and enjoying.

CV: What's next for the band? What can fans expect to see coming?
Armagelion: My third single, "Playing with Fire" just came out. I'm in the lineup of The Metal Burning Fest III in Los Angeles, California on November 18th this year.

I'm planning an American tour to promote the first EP. This will be followed by the release of a second EP, which later on will be combined with the debut EP to form the self-titled full debut album ARMAGELION.

CV: Thank you again for spending some time talking and sharing with our readers. It was a pleasure. I wish you all the best and continued success.
Armagelion: Thank you for having me again…my pleasure.

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
