Interview with Artist Jenna Leigh (UK)
By Mick Michaels
The Cosmick View: Hello, Jenna and welcome to The Cosmick View/MBM Ten Pounder! Thanks for taking some time to chat with us!
CV: Describe your definition your sound and style and how does
that definition uniquely describe the music?Jenna Leigh: ITS ROCK N ROLL…CALL IT PUNK ROCK AT THE BASE BUT ITS CINEMATIC TOO…USING BOTH GUITARS ANS SYNTHS. I WROTE MOST OF THIS ALBUM, DEMOED ON GUITAR AND TRANSPOSED TO SYNTH AND SOUNDSCAPES CREATING A WALL OF SOUND.
CV: Today, everyone
talks about artist and audience connection. Is such a level of connection
actually achievable for an artist and if so, how have you made the connection
to your fans?
CV: Is fan
interaction an important part of your inner culture?
JL: WELL I’VE WORKED,
TRAVELED AND LIVED BETWEEN LONDON, PARIS AND LA SINCE I WAS A TEEN. SCENE IS
DARK ROCK BUT IT’S A GENRE THAT HAS LOTS OF THE BANDS…WE KNOW ONE ANOTHER.
CV: Can an artist truly
interact with its fans and still maintain a level of personal privacy
without crossing the line and giving up their “personal space” in your opinion?
CV: Is music, and its
value, viewed differently around the world in your opinion? If so, what
do you see as the biggest difference in such multiple views among various
cultures?
ROCK I THINK WAS KING IN LA FROM THE LATE 70S TO THE HUGE GLAM SCENE ON SUNSET BLVD IN THE MID 80S WHEN MUSIC WAS FUN AND REAL SWEATY AND THE MAKE UP LOOKED BETTER IN THE MORNING.
THE HISPANIC MARKET IS ONE, IF NOT THE BIGGEST MARKET, ON THE PLANET. BUT SCENES COME AND GO. JLO AND DIDDY IN THE 90S TO NOW MACHINE GUN KELLY HOLDING FORT IN THE REVISED POP PUNK REVOLUTION. AVRIL LAVIGNE IS NOW BACK ON TOP. I LIKE MYSTERY IN ROCK STARS LIKE NUMAN OR RECENTLY, THAT POPPY BRINGING OUT HER SOUND ON 'I DISAGREE’ ALBUM IN 2020.
SCENES CHANGE AND RETURN. BUT RNB AND HIP HOP…THERE'S JUST TOO MUCH OF IT…IT’S SAFE NOISE
I THINK FOO FIGHTERS ARE BIG IN UK AND EUROPE BECAUSE WE LOVE ROCK.
CV: Do you feel that an
artist that has an international appeal, will tend to connect more so to
American audiences?
CV: Would an audience
be more enticed or intrigued to see a foreign artist over indigenous acts
because of the international flavor?
JL: NO, I THINK
PEOPLE LIKE WHAT THEY LIKE WHEREVER THE BAND COMES FROM.
CV: Has modern-day
digital technology made everyone an artist on some level in your
opinion? Have the actual lines of what really is an artist been blurred?
CV: How would you
describe the difference between an artist who follows trends and one who
sets them?
JL: I HAVE ALWAYS
PREFERRED LIVING IN THE OUTDOORS OF WHAT THE MASSES ARE DOING. I THINK ONE
ARTIST WILL SIMPLY BE MORE INTERESTING AND NATURALLY ENIGMATIC AND BRAVE
AGAINST ONE WHOM IS NOT…LIKE BOWIE OR ED SHIREEN.
CV: Has music overall
been splintered into too many sub-genres in an effort to appease fan tastes
in your opinion? And has such fan appeasements, in actuality, weakened
music’s impact as a whole by dividing audiences?
CV:
Thanks again Jenna for taking some
time and talking. It is greatly appreciated.
