The Cosmick View: Hello, and welcome to The Cosmick View/MBM Ten Pounder! Thanks for taking some time to chat with us!

CV: Describe your definition of the band’s sound and style and how does that definition uniquely describe the music?
Pressure: Hello and thank you for interviewing us! We are a Story Metal band. We collect stories from all around us. Both things that we have experienced ourselves and also what people have told us about their experiences and lives. We use those stories to make the foundation for our music. We take the stories, mix them with the correct heavy sound that really sets the correct mood for the song and we mix them together. For us the mix between mood, lyrics and music is the most important. Each song has it own sound and mood as it describes different Pressures and Feelings around us.

CV: Today, everyone talks about artist and audience connection. Is such a level of connection actually achievable for an artist and if so, how have you made the connection to your fans?
Pressure: We sure hope so. We aim to make our music for the people who listen to us and we want them to feel empowered and seen by our music. The stories are real from real people, so we hope to make the connection there. We want our music to be seen and used as tools for everyone who needs help or encouragement to handle the different pressures that affect each and every individual in the world.

CV: Is fan interaction an important part of the band’s inner culture?
Pressure: I would say that it’s very important. We aim to get as much response as possible and we really listen to our fans. We have had fans helping out on video recordings and other fun things. And we have tried to be there for all those who reach out for us.

CV: Can a band truly interact with its fans and still maintain a level of personal privacy without crossing the line and giving up their “personal space” in your opinion?
Pressure: This is a quite a tricky question. To really be able to play Story Metal as we do you have to give a lot of yourself or the audience will know that it’s not true what you are doing! So in my opinion you cannot maintain a big personal space to really be able to be a good artist. Dare to live life to be able to write about life. And you have to show your inner self to the audience to get a true response!

CV: Is music, and its value, viewed differently around the world in your opinion?  If so, what do you see as the biggest difference in such multiple views among various cultures?
Pressure: I think that the metal community is actually quite the same all around the world. We metal heads are like a big family. We are like siblings. We can fight over which band has the best guitarist or show or vocalist. But in the end we are metal heads and music has no skin color, no race, no religion and nothing that must keep us a part. I love all my metal heads all over the world!

CV: Do you feel that a band that has an international appeal, will tend to connect more so to American audiences? Would they be more enticed or intrigued to see the band over indigenous acts because of the foreign flavor?
Pressure: Well there are a lot of great American bands. I listen to a lot of them! But yeah, a band that sings in a foreign language can have an appeal…its fun to guess what they are saying. I cannot speak Spanish but I love Spanish metal! And as for us, Pressure, we have seen that our song “Ännu Mer” in Swedish as gotten a good response in the US!

CV: Has modern-day digital technology made everyone an artist on some level in your opinion? Have the actual lines of what really is an artist been blurred?
Pressure: Unfortunately, I think that is true. There is a lot of new music that is really good but there is also a lot bad songs being released. Songs that would have had potential but are under produced or badly recorded…well some songs are just really bad songs. Not every one can be an artist. But the line has been easier to cross and when people with little or no skill can do a release on the same terms as people who dedicated all their life to the art, well that it’s a bit bad for the music business itself. You drown in music, and we as an emerging band must always fight to break through the noise!

CV: How would you describe the difference between an artist who follows trends and one who sets them?
Pressure: You can see the difference quite easy. There are a lot of copy cats out there…bands and artists doing the same things as the artists who influenced them. These guys are just following what the established artists does and will change accordingly. Then we have the people who have their own unique style and music. The ones who do not care about what others thinks or do. These guys are the trendsetters. I just love that. Stand up for the art and believe in your own image!

CV: Has music overall been splintered into too many sub-genres in an effort to appease fan tastes in your opinion? And has such fan appeasements, in actuality, weakened music’s impact as a whole by dividing audiences?
Pressure: Yes, I think so…we have more listeners now since the streaming services have taken over from the albums. But everything shall be so categorized. We often get questions like “Which artists is your sound like?” and “in what genre should we place you?” I think that the time of the genres are over now. It’s too much to get a grip. Before all this you could handle the metal scene and even if you didn’t listen to all the sub genres you could name them and place bands into them. Now…? Well I don’t know any of my metal friends who can count all the sub genres….

CV: What can fans except to see coming next from you?
Pressure: Our album is coming in the beginning of May, “Path Of A Shadow”. We are really proud of that one. It’s very strong and we have been working on it for almost 2 and a half year.

CV: Thanks again for taking some time and talking. It is greatly appreciated.

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
