Interview with Blitz Union (Czech Republic)
The Cosmick View: Hello, and welcome to The Cosmick View/MBM Ten Pounder! Thanks for taking some time to chat with us!
CV: Describe your definition of the band’s sound and style and how does that definition uniquely describe the music?
Our sound consists of heavy riffs, energy-driven rock elements and catchy EDM hooks. We call it EDM-Rock. This fusion became very natural for us as we enjoy the freedom during the creation process. There are so many options how you can approach a song by combining those two styles. It’s fun.
CV: Today, everyone talks about artist and audience connection. Is such a level of connection actually achievable for an artist and if so, how have you made the connection to your fans?
I think it is definitely possible and it is actually one of our main goals. In our case, we are trying to create an experience, a movement - a natural Union…a group of like-minded people who care about the whole, who care about life in general and do not focus exclusively on their personal profit. We motivate people to share their views, life-stories, biggest fears with us - and participate in the future direction of the Union.
CV: Is fan interaction an important part of the band’s inner culture?
I would say it’s one of its foundations actually! There will be a lot to be found out by fans around the Union and our story which we can’t wait to start sharing!
CV: Can a band truly interact with its
fans and still maintain a level of personal privacy without crossing the line
and giving up their “personal space” in your opinion?
We do not have such an experience yet so it’s hard to comment on this one. But I think it depends on the artist himself how open he/she wants to be. You probably have to be clear about that from the very beginning, so that it doesn’t “grind” you later.

CV: Is music, and its value, viewed
differently around the world in your opinion? If so, what do you see as
the biggest difference in such multiple views among various cultures?
Hopefully, one day I will be able to answer this question once I’ll return from our round-the-world tour, LOL. But currently I can only comment on my homeland Czech Republic. That’s the only country I know something about a bit, haha. Here I think the music is mostly about having fun - either go wild or relax. The most popular Czech bands usually have funny lyrics and very entertaining live shows. So I think music in Czech Republic is a really valuable thing as it provides you with positive energy and a good time.

CV: Do you feel that a band that has an international
appeal, will tend to connect more so to American audiences? Would they be more
enticed or intrigued to see the band over indigenous acts because of the
foreign flavor?
Well, what can be definitely noticed is that American audiences love some exotic stuff like the bands “The HU” from Mongolia or “BABYMETAL” from Japan - they are a hot topic in the US right now. But as with everything, I think there is no specific pattern, or a certainty which would be assuring you that it’ll have success in general. Several aspects must meet together at once.
CV: Has modern-day digital technology made everyone an artist on some level in your opinion? Have the actual lines of what really is an artist been blurred?
I think it depends on what one imagines under the concept of art. For me for example, art is anything that is done in a certain harmony/nature - it can be from a plumber to horseback riding for example, LOL, that the person is an artist in the activity, I know I enjoy looking at it and it radiates incredible peace. And I think that principle is still the same all the time. Only this digital/online age gives the opportunity to you to show anything to the whole world in a second.

CV: How would you describe the difference between an artist who follows trends and one who sets them?
I don't think it's too big. If a given artist honestly makes music that he enjoys, fulfills him, then it doesn't matter if he follows a trend or path of his own. Maybe those who follow trends plan more and think more commercially, but I think it is really case-by-case.
CV: Has music overall been splintered
into too many sub-genres in an effort to appease fan tastes in your opinion?
And has such fan appeasements, in actuality, weakened music’s impact as a whole
by dividing audiences?
I think it is more an attempt to create some original or unique sound rather than appease fan tastes. At least that is the approach in our Union. If you don’t want to follow strict patterns of a specific genre, you have to experiment a bit and blend multiple styles together. And I think it is definitely not weakening the music at all - it pushes the musicians to be more innovative. Then time will tell if it was a good move or step aside.

CV: What can fans expect to see coming
next from you?
We will be releasing the last song of our second EP “Not Proud” this April which will close another chapter of Blitz Union. Then we will focus with all our force to finish our first, debut full album which we would like to release this year already as well. But you can expect more of Blitz Union’s music in various forms to be released throughout the whole year.
CV: Thanks again for taking some time and talking. It is greatly appreciated.
Thanks for having us! The pleasure is all mine.

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary.
Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say
in speech, I was able to do with the written word. Writing has given me
a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms
including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and
now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to
raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational
light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
