Interview with Slave Pit

By Mick Michaels

COSMICK VIEW: Hello! Welcome to The Cosmick View. Thank you for taking some time out of your day to chat with me, it's greatly appreciated.

CV: How do you see your band separating itself from just being another Heavy Metal act?
Slave Pit: The changes are really big and the music industry always gives a chance to people who have big finance…so for now, nothing has changed and for the new bands it is very hard especially if they don’t have money and good productions, including high quality videos. Without money, it is very, very hard to have a big career :(… but we continue fight and will never give up.

CV: Has the band's music and style of songwriting changed drastically since the group first formed?
Slave Pit:  So, to be honest, my band is not so different. We are old school Thrash Death Metal maniacs and maybe we look different with our uniforms as we are covered in our blood…maybe that will make us different than other bands and maybe for that, we get noticed and play big festivals and people will recognize us by that. Whenever we do a gig or tour, there is always a metalhead who has said “yeah, I know you…you are the guys with blood on your clothes,”…and that makes me happy \w/

CV: What do you see as the biggest change in the music industry since the band first formed?
Slave Pit:  Yes, I changed my music completely from old school Thrash Metal to a technical Thrash Death with hard vocals. But the lyrics are the same…at war with all kinds of religion and the lyrics are in the same vein…war, hate, religion, and disease. So that’s our point ,we sing about future world shit too…and yes, we know that the end of the beginning of the human race is soon coming.

CV: Has digital technology made everyone an artist on some level in your opinion?
Slave Pit:  Well, I love the old technology…analog. I hate the digital sounds and technology, but the world has changed and everyone wants what’s new and to sound better and better. I do that like the others but my heart always has and will be the old school bastard :)

CV: Has Metal, or even music in general, splintered into too many sub-genres? Why do think there are so many classifications of music types? Can this be confusing for the fans?
Slave Pit:  Yeah there are a lot of genres and sub-genres but for me, there’s always gonna be the few of them I connect with, of course…Thrash-Death-Speed-Power-Black…but there are lots of new genres too like New Metal, djent and a 1000 more of them…but we all know who the father of all genres is and we don’t have a problem with the new genres. Everyone has a right to create new music or new genres, and yes there are a lot and people don’t know what to listen to at times…every day is something new and I can say the fans will decide what they’re gonna do in their lives. We are here to create music and they are here to support that music.

CV: How would you define “iconic?” What do you think makes an artist iconic?
Slave Pit:  I don’t know about what makes an artist iconic; we are not connected to that. We are just crazy old school bastards who love to play and travel around the world :D

CV: Should young artist even strive to become a “rock star” Is being a "rock star" even a relevant term nowadays? What are your thoughts?
Slave Pit:  We don’t want to become rock stars, we just want to create our music to enjoy in our performance…and to  talk and drink with our true fans! We are people and we are not so different then other people; The hall of fame or rockstar for us is just ash. :) We want to be normal metalheads nothing more… and we will always be the same people!

CV: What message do you want your music to convey to the world?
Slave Pit: Well, my message is to everyone…love your family, respect others, listen to music and be cool. We sing about war but we don’t want war...and that's it.  The music is here to sing the reality but the fact we live in that reality doesn’t mean it is okay for us to always be in the middle of the war…so fuck the war…drink and listen to Metal…Cheers!

CV: What's next for you? What can fans expect to see coming?
Slave Pit: The fans can expect a very brutal new album with a lot of technical playing and a new type of vocals and harder lyrics…you need to wait to see what kind of evil will be coming soon; trust me I`m serious :) I am working very hard on the new material.

CV: Thank you again for spending some time talking and sharing with our readers. It was a pleasure. I wish you all the best and continued success.
Slave Pit: Thank you, my friend, for giving us  chance to talk with you. Cheers!

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
