Interview with the Band Align the Tide

By Mick Michaels

COSMICK VIEW: Hello! Welcome to The Cosmick View. Thank you for taking some time out of your day to chat with me, it's greatly appreciated.

CV: What do you feel is a real game changer for an artist or band when it comes to their career in the modern music industry? Is it something they do, or say, or achieve…?
Align the Tide: In today’s era, artists need to focus more on standing out and being active on social media; it is about keeping up with pop culture and having high interactions with the audience.

CV: Years ago it was said that video killed the radio star. Has social media killed what was left in your opinion?
Align the Tide: Yes, unfortunately we believe that social media has killed off what was left as artists are focusing more on what to post rather on songwriting.

CV: With the world now being post-COVID, how have things changed for you as an artist? Has a new music industry really emerged in its wake as many are saying? What are your thoughts?
Align the Tide: We are still seeing the world recover from such a pandemic; however, we are already seeing great progress in the music scene, as people are striving for live performances. Although we have been missing from the live scene for three years due to the pandemic, we’re slowly getting back to where we were before and even better.

CV: If you knew the pandemic was coming, what would you have done differently as an artist to prepare?
Align the Tide: We would have toured as much as we could pre-pandemic and never declined an offer. When the pandemic hit we would have been prepared to focus more on studio videos and being more of an internet band.

CV: Do you believe bands and artists who make the biggest impact on fans, as well as other artists, are really ever aware that they are? Or do you think it’s more like a tunnel vision sort of existence for them, where they’re somewhat in the dark? Do you think such artists can actually see past their own work to even know the ripples they make on others?
Align the Tide: We believe that it would differ from artist to artist, it depends on what kind of person they are, if they only see their own work they will not realize the effect they have on their fans and listeners.

CV: Does music need to be influential to be considered worth listening to in your opinion? Or can music simply be just an enjoyable auditory experience devoid of substance?
Align the Tide: Music should first and foremost always be enjoyable to the listener. Metal riffs could be enough to make your day. Influential music should come as a byproduct of something created naturally and not tried to be forced upon other people.

CV: What do you consider “being relevant” is when discussing how artists and bands should present themselves to the public? Does relevance translate into success in your opinion? In addition, what do you feel an artist can do right now to stay relevant?
Align the Tide: Relevance in today’s world is very volatile; it is very difficult to predict what will stick with the audience. Sometimes the smallest things make an artist ‘relevant’ in the current pop culture, it could be a release or even a post or a meme.

CV: As an artist, what do you see as being your biggest lesson learned? And what type of impact has that lesson had on you as a person and your career?
Align the Tide: We’re constantly learning as we go through the years, meeting new management companies, labels and even bands on tours so learning is assured. Always read contracts thoroughly and always take your time to think to make a decision but do not be afraid to go after what you really want.

CV: What's next? What can fans expect to see coming from you?
Align the Tide: Stay tuned as we’re releasing our upcoming album ‘Hollow’ on the 26th of August, available on all platforms and possibly tour around to promote our release.

CV: Thank you again for spending some time talking and sharing with our readers. It was such a pleasure. I wish you all the best.
Align the Tide: Thank you for your interest and the opportunity!

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
