Interview with Vocalist Ivan of the Metal band Stealth (Italy)

By Mick Michaels

The Cosmick View: Hello, and welcome to The Cosmick View/MBM Ten Pounder! Thanks for taking some time to chat with us!
IVAN: Hello and thank you for the interview.

CV: Describe your definition of the band’s sound and style and how does that definition uniquely describe the music?
IVAN: For me Stealth is a mixture of genres from Heavy Metal to Industrial and Nu Metal as we love experimenting with various metal styles, but we also like maintaining a precise standard of sound. Our music has several influences and they come together in a unique and modern sound.

CV: Today, everyone talks about artist and audience connection. Is such a level of connection actually achievable for an artist and if so, how have you made the connection to your fans?
IVAN: Connection between the band and its audience is really important. It allows a band to grow and its members to become more confident on the stage. I don't know if and in which way it is totally achievable, but I can tell you that we definitively take our time to speak with our fans after every gig we play.

CV: Is fan interaction an important part of the band’s inner culture?
IVAN: Absolutely! Fans are one of the most important parts of our music project. We constantly try to update them with band news and current release and we just recently launched a Stealth Club which is accessible from some of our social channels. Also we love receiving both good and bad feedback from them after each release so that we can improve where possible.

CV: Can a band truly interact with its fans and still maintain a level of personal privacy without crossing the line and giving up their “personal space” in your opinion?
IVAN: Good question. In my opinion fans are very important but they are fans precisely. They can express and say what they want but they should stay outside of my private life.

CV: Is music, and its value, viewed differently around the world in your opinion? If so, what do you see as the biggest difference in such multiple views among various cultures?
IVAN: From my experience there are differences of view even here in Europe, let alone in other continents. I toured a lot abroad with Stealth and I noted how the way the audience responds in Croatia or Slovenia for example is totally different on how it responds in England. Every country has its own view and especially regarding metal music, there might be many different styles within the genre itself and this might bring to, as you said, multiple views among various cultures. So the biggest difference is the cultural differences themselves. But they might be big opportunities too.

CV: Do you feel that a band that has an international appeal, will tend to connect more so to American audiences? Would they be more enticed or intrigued to see the band over indigenous acts because of the foreign flavor?
IVAN: I think American audiences are among the most varied in the world. They like many styles of music and they don't care if a band is famous or not. There is a different music fruition in America compared to Europe and this absolutely helps both international and underground local bands. So I don't think there would really be a difference.

CV: Has modern-day digital technology made everyone an artist on some level in your opinion? Have the actual lines of what really is an artist been blurred?
IVAN: I think so but it was inevitable. The modern technology is something that we can't avoid and the real challenge is making the most of it. Composing a song using modern technological musical instruments in the best way is not as simple as it seems and even an artist with limited knowledge of music theory can compose a hit song. This is part of the game in this modern age.

CV: How would you describe the difference between an artist who follows trends and one who sets them?
IVAN: It's like the difference between Coca Cola and Pepsi Cola. When you set a trend you have a specific talent for discovering the right formula that will be followed by everyone else in a way that will never be like yours.

CV: Has music overall been splintered into too many sub-genres in an effort to appease fan tastes in your opinion? And has such fan appeasements, in actuality, weakened music’s impact as a whole by dividing audiences?
IVAN: Yes of course. I think sub-genres are useless and only a market strategy that often confuse listener instead of directing him or her. This way of labeling music at all costs has inevitably weakened the music market as a whole and has led to an evolving crisis in music that we don't know when it will end.

CV: What can fans expect to see coming next from you?
IVAN: We are ready to hit the stage again. We will play at the Renaissance Festival in London this May…our first gig after long time and we can't wait. We have some new projects in line and we are composing some new songs  We are about to start recording them and they should be released by the end of this year. Also we are thinking to release a compilation of our best audio recordings by the 3rd of August 2022, to celebrate the band 25th anniversary.

CV: Thanks again for taking some time and talking. It is greatly appreciated.
IVAN: Thank you and a big hello to all readers of The Cosmick View/MBM Ten Pounder! Stay Heavy!

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
