COSMICK
VIEW: Hello, Polo! Welcome to The Cosmick View. Thank you for taking some time out of your day to chat with me, it's greatly appreciated.

CV:Do you feel Heavy Metal music in general is viewed differently by fans in Europe compared to fans elsewhere, especially in America, and if so why?
Polo: I’m not sure if I can say anything about that because we have not had much contact to metal fans outside of Europe.

CV:What do you feel makes Heavy Metal music so alluring to the fans? What is it about the music that personally resonates so strongly with you?
Polo: In my opinion metal is more honest to people. Metalheads are metalheads and metal bands are metal bands. They have that very special feeling in common.

CV: Has Metal splintered into too many sub-genres in your opinion, thus, making it harder for newer bands to actually classify themselves as one style over another?  Is it confusing for fans as well?
Polo: I don’t think so because I do not really care about how to call the special type of music we make or the music I listen to.  Other people like to categorize the music, they are free to do that.

CV: How would you describe the current state of the music business considering we are now living in a COVID aware, and maybe even feared world? Have things drastically changed long-term for artists and bands given the recent pandemic? What are your thoughts?
Polo: Even before COVID we had a bad situation where it‘s more and more difficult for bands to sell their music in a fair way. Bands are more and more forced to put their music on streaming platforms. Don’t get me wrong, I think these platforms are great to spread the music to the people, but I think the payment needs to be changed in the direction of like the pro bands.

Regardless of that, I hope there will be some venues left to play after the pandemic.

CV: What do you feel makes your band and its particular approach to songwriting work? What keeps the band together and making music?
Polo: I think we have no special receipt in the way we create songs (in comparison to other bands). But we have a very peaceful way to create riffs, harmonies, etc. We respect every idea and try to put it into the songs. And that works very well. Th
e band itself consists of four very reasonable characters. We want to achieve the same with the band and that makes it very easy to work together.

CV: On a more global view, how do you see your bands music and songwriting separating itself from just being another Heavy Metal act?
Polo: I do not know how other bands write their songs.
We try to bring a lot of emotions into the songs to make them sound unique. But I think they do that the same way. So I’m not sure that we are doing things different :).

CV: Can an artist truly be unique? Some would argue there is no such thing as being unique; that its nothing more than a compounding of influences making an artist who or what they are. Would this then say that artists today are destined to be just copies of those who have already come to pass?
Polo: When we write songs we create poems, harmonies...new music. And I think that makes us unique. Of course we can not reinvent music but every new song is unique, in my opinion. Of course we are influenced by other bands and artists
but that is only a small part in the whole creative process.

CV: Are there life lessons to learn being in a Heavy Metal band that you feel cannot be taught elsewhere? If so, what are they?
Polo: Yes of course. The most important thing is you have to work very, very hard for your success. It is not that easy as it always seems to be.

CV: What do you feel makes someone a rockstar”? Does being a rock star automatically make one iconic or are the two completely different in your opinion?
Polo: What is the definition of an rockstar ? What I can say is that we are a rock band, a team. There is no single star.

CV: What's next for you? What can fans expect to see coming as the world looks to surmount a new normal laced with a load of restrictions?
Polo: We are going to release our second album PAIN on March 18th. And after that we are going to do what we can to our do best...playing gigs !!!

CV: Thank you again Polo for spending some time talking and sharing with our readers. It was a pleasure. I wish you all the best and continued success.
Polo: It was a pleasure for me to talk with you and thank you on behalf of the whole band for this interview and bringing us to the people. Take care, stay healthy and all the best.

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
