Interview with Chatrán González of the Band Muva

By Mick Michaels

COSMICK VIEW: Hello! Welcome to The Cosmick View/MBM Ten Pounder. Thank you for taking some time out of your day to chat with me, it's greatly appreciated.

CV: Every artist experiences highs and lows. Many struggle just to move from one level to the next, and some, unfortunately, never do. What would you consider to be a pivotal point in an artist's career which would take them from one level to the next that a struggling artist should be aware of? Is it an individual mindset or does it equate more to opportunity? Or is it something all together different in your opinion?
Chatrán González: A couple of years ago, I heard a famous Mexican entrepreneur say that he began to build his fortune after the age of 45, after having driven many previous ventures to bankruptcy. Or, for example, Adolf Dassler founded Adidas at 48, and Chaleo Yoovidhya created Red Bull at 53. That’s why I believe that success in any kind of endeavor, whether in the arts or outside of them, is more closely tied to persistence and resilience than to the fleeting nature of fame.

CV: What do you feel an artist can do right now to stay relevant, especially in an environment, such as the present, where performing in front of a live audience is not an option?
CH.G: On the contrary, I believe that as artists who advocate for the act of creation, this is the perfect time to bring art to an audience eager to see and hear live performances. A big part of the challenges brought by artificial intelligence is that almost anyone can now create a song and upload it to social media. However, live performance and offering the audience an experience in every concert is, in my opinion, the way to keep what we do alive and relevant.

CV: What have you found to be the balancing point between relevance and over saturation when it comes to being an artist? Is there a fine line between the two or can it be looked at to some degree as the two essentially being one and the same?
CH.G: Honestly, I’m a bit concerned about the dehumanization with which new listeners judge musical proposals today. I believe that the key to staying relevant lies in finding the right balance between visibility and authenticity. While trendy content is often tied to fleeting fashions that lack soul and become repetitive, artistic proposals with true cultural value have the power to stand out, strike that balance, and leave a lasting impact.

CV: Is there any level of consideration, or even concern, to deliver on expectations, whether it being your own or that of the fans, when working on new material?
CH.G: Not really. At least for me.... I’ve always believed that what drives MUVA’s sound is a deep commitment to honesty and staying true to its artistic vision. It’s never been about chasing trends or fitting into commercially acceptable standards just to belong to a specific niche. MUVA’s purpose is to ignite a connection with listeners who crave something real—authentic ideas and sounds that break through the noise, stir emotions, and leave a lasting imprint on the soul.

CV: For you, what’s first when it comes to songwriting…is it a matter of lyrics melody, chords, beat, attitude? Or is it more organic than that where the moment dictates the process and outcome?
CH.G: The first thing that usually takes shape in my mind is a tapestry of words and images woven from specific themes. As I begin to give those ideas form, a melody emerges—yet when it arrives, it doesn't come alone. It carries a sensation, like the fleeting frame of a movie scene. Except, in this case, it's a film woven from the essence of life itself.

CV: What do you believe makes songwriting more honest and impactful...that something that both the artist and listener can share?
CH.G: I believe that songwriting becomes truly honest and impactful when it stems from a deep sense of honesty toward oneself. When an artist dares to explore their own emotions, experiences, and truths without filters or pretense, that authenticity naturally extends to the audience. It creates a space where the listener can see fragments of their own life reflected within the lyrics and melodies, forging a bond that transcends words. In that shared recognition—where the artist’s vulnerability mirrors the listener’s own—lies the true power of music: the ability to remind us that we’re not alone in what we feel.

CV: What do you feel has been the greatest contribution to your success as an artist?
CH.G: I believe the greatest contribution to my success as an artist has been persistence and passion. Staying committed to my craft, even when faced with challenges and setbacks, has allowed me to grow both creatively and personally. Passion is what fuels every note, lyric, and performance, while persistence is what keeps me moving forward when the path gets difficult. Together, they form the foundation that has shaped my journey and allowed me to continue evolving as an artist.

CV: What's next for you? What can fans expect to see coming up?
CH.G: There’s a wave of new music on the horizon—exciting collaborations with artists from Mexico and beyond, each adding their unique essence to the journey. MUVA is venturing into uncharted sonic realms, daring to walk paths few have explored. And with the upcoming album, fans can expect a bold expression of artistic freedom—where every note, every lyric, and every sound resonates with the untamed spirit of creation.

CV: Thank you again for spending some time talking and sharing with
our readers. I wish you all the best and continued success.

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
