Interview with Founder and Vocal Keyboardist Jeremy Bluteau of Solstice Rider

By Mick Michaels

The Cosmick View: Hello, and welcome to The Cosmick View/MBM Ten Pounder! Thanks for taking some time to chat with us!
Jeremy Bluteau: Hey thanks, no Problem. :)

CV: Describe your definition of the band’s sound and style and how does that definition uniquely describe the music?
JB: Solstice Rider is what I would call “Dynamic Metal”. Metal music focused on the highs and lows of the music and emotional experiences more than anything. We play melodic death metal on a high energy day and enjoy something shoegaze-like on a chill day.

CV: Today, everyone talks about artist and audience connection. Is such a level of connection actually achievable for an artist and if so, how have you made the connection to your fans?
JB: Results may vary, but for us we maintain connections with our fans using Social Media. We try to respond to comments and messages in our inbox. We try to keep discussions going on our content.

CV: Is fan interaction an important part of the band’s inner culture?
JB: Definitely! Our fans are Riders of the Solstice. a Clan, an army, a family. :) A growing community that loves the music and appreciates the values in it.

CV: Can a band truly interact with its fans and still maintain a level of personal privacy without crossing the line and giving up their “personal space” in your opinion?
JB: The question is in a sense asking if boundaries are possible. The answer to that question is yes. We maintain connections but know when the line is crossed and when things get too personal.

CV: Is music, and its value, viewed differently around the world in your opinion?  If so, what do you see as the biggest difference in such multiple views among various cultures?
JB: Most definitely! The biggest difference is how important music is in various cultures. Some see music like a sort of religion, some see it as background noise. There are some cultural distinctions as much as there are personal distinctions.

CV: Do you feel that a band that has an international appeal, will tend to connect more so to American audiences? Would they be more enticed or intrigued to see the band over indigenous acts because of the foreign flavor?
JB: That is completely dependent on the band. The answer could be yes or no. For Solstice Rider, we connect with audiences all over. I’m sure it could be the case that they are enticed by exotic sounds. But it all depends.

CV: Has modern-day digital technology made everyone an artist on some level in your opinion? Have the actual lines of what really is an artist been blurred?
JB: Technology has certainly lowered the barrier of entry into the music field. Midi and AI assisted tools have definitely contributed to this widely. I don’t think the lines have been blurred. As technology has grown, so has the type of art an artist creates. This is a song and dance as old as time itself.

CV: How would you describe the difference between an artist who follows trends and one who sets them?
JB: Quite simply, an artist who sets trends decides to be themselves. Those that follow trends are not confident in themselves and play it safe. Or they seek to make easy money.

CV: Has music overall been splintered into too many sub-genres in an effort to appease fan tastes in your opinion? And has such fan appeasements, in actuality, weakened music’s impact as a whole by dividing audiences?
JB: No, in my honest opinion I think more sub-genres actually benefit music because it means that more unique types of music are being created. Honestly, too much fan appeasement is a reason why bands can't create new sub genres because in order to create a new sub genre you have to create something new in the first place. It's important to keep fans happy but it's also important to break new ground. Sometimes fans encourage that and sometimes fans don't and it's up to the band to decide what the best decision is.

CV: What can fans expect to see coming next from Solstice Rider?
JB: We have a new EP and LP coming out in 2024 so it's gonna be a very busy year for us.

CV: Thanks again for taking some time and talking. It is greatly appreciated.

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
