Interview with Vocalist Aaron Letrick of Letrick Olson

By Mick Michaels

COSMICK VIEW: Hello, Aaron! Welcome to The Cosmick View. Thank you for taking some time out of your day to chat with me, it is greatly appreciated.

CV: What do you feel sets the band apart from other bands, especially those of similar sound and style? What's the specific allure your sound and style have that has people taking notice?
Aaron Letrick: Being a Detroit Super group is a great start! With former and current members of Kid Rock and Ted Nugent combined with our diverse influences creates a unique sound.

CV: For any band, dynamics is key to grabbing an audience's attention. What do you feel is the main ingredient to having such a captivating dynamic and being able to bring something more to the music?
AL: This band is seasoned veterans that know how to weave a spell with their instruments. Jason’s grooves move you. Kevin supplies bass parts that not only support the band but drive it. Bones gives the band orchestration, soul and is really the musical director. Kenny Olson sings through his fingers. My lyrics, melodies and vocals are approached with emotion.

CV: How would you describe the ultimate musical experience for your fans? And how does the band go about creating that musical vision, while generating the impact the band wants to have on its audience?
AL: The ultimate experience is to take the ride with us live. While we do rehearse for the live stuff what happens on stage is mesmerizing. Once we get in the zone, which happens fast, it becomes an event. Improvisation and jamming create one-of-a-kind experiences.

CV: The music business has always been one that regardless of who you are, where you came from or where you've been, you can either sink or swim.  Does this type of realism have any effect on how the band drives itself to succeed?
AL: This group is comprised of extremely successful guys. What we put out now is for us and we hope our fans love it. "Willow" was written as my therapy after losing her…it was never meant to be released. Now I just want to share her with the world and maybe help others with loss.

CV: In your opinion, is there any middle ground for a band or is it a do or die climate in today's music industry?
AL: With social media I think you can be as successful as you want. How hard do you want to work?

CV: How would you describe the band's internal energy? Does the band’s outward appearance align with its true inward nature from your perspective? AL: We’re a laidback group that loves to play music. We’ve all learned what is needed and what is unnecessary. We are who we are on and off the stage.

CV: What's at the core of the band's songwriting approach? Are there certain elements that are considered when a song begins to take form and evolves? AL: I wrote “Willow” and the boys wrote their parts. You can’t write what Kenny played for Kenny. That’s him singing through those magic fingers.

CV: Do you allow things to just happen when writing; seeing where a song goes, or is there a certain course of action and structure you keep a song on, thus, essentially making it destined to achieve its overall potential? It goes where it goes.
AL: When you have musicians of this caliber you let the tape run.

CV: Do you feel how the fans and critics describe the band’s music accurately reflects how you would describe the band’s music?
AL: Everyone has their own opinion and how people describe us is their truth. Who are we to argue?

CV: Walk us through a typical show for the band...what can fans who have never seen you perform expect?
AL: No such thing as a typical show. There’s a general outline but once we get going its game on. If we have friends at the show we bring them up. Anything can happen.

CV: What more can fans look forward to seeing coming from the band?
AL: New songs being written and finished now. Hopefully more releases by year’s end.

CV: Thank you again Aaron for spending some time talking and sharing with our readers. I wish you all the best and continued success.

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
