Interview with the Band Die Tired
By Mick Michaels
The Cosmick View: Hello, and welcome to The Cosmick View/MBM Ten Pounder! Thanks for taking some time to chat with us!
CV: Describe your definition of the band’s sound and style and how does
that definition uniquely describe the
music?
Die Tired: The sound
of Die Tired is best described as an alternative rock core interwoven with
grunge and pop-punk influences which offer the listener relatable tones
connected to emotional experiences and personal stories of their journey
through life and relationships.
CV: Today, everyone talks about artist and
audience connection. Is such a level of connection actually achievable for an
artist and if so, how have you made the connection to your fans?
Die Tired: We believe
that such a connection is possible. In order to fulfill this, we involve our
fans in the live show; we shout out themes and relatable experiences of which
are written about throughout our lyrics. We believe it is so important to be
able to document time with fans and because of this value, we always make it a
point to take photographs, and get to know those who attend our shows on a
personal level.
CV: Is fan interaction an important part of the band’s inner culture?
Die Tired: Fan
interaction is so important to the culture of Die Tired. We take it to another
level. On occasion, if a fan wants to sing or jam with the band; we welcome
this interaction even at live shows. We also make it a point to respond
personally to social media comments. Regular mailing list updates are a top
priority. We would not be where we are now without fan support, and we always
want to give back.
CV: Can a band truly interact with its fans
and still maintain a level of personal privacy without crossing the line and
giving up their “personal space” in your opinion?
Die Tired: Yes, this
is very possible. We are always willing to interact with fans after the show
and have conversation at a personal level, but it is always focused on music
and the way in which personal experiences are brought out in the songs. This
helps to maintain fan involvement and also helps our songs absorb into an
individual’s persona and way of life.
CV: Is music, and its value, viewed
differently around the world in your opinion? If so, what do you see as
the biggest difference in such multiple views among various cultures?
Die Tired: Music is
music. It does not matter what style, what brand, what culture, what region, or
what instruments. If a band can put together an arrangement of notes, rhythms,
and lyrics that engage the listener in a relatable way, and provokes a wide
range of emotions, then it is impactful across the board.
CV: Do you feel that a band that has an
international appeal, will tend to connect more so to American audiences?
Die Tired: Would they
be more enticed or intrigued to see the band over indigenous acts because of
the foreign flavor? It is important for a band to be up to date on the trends
of musical appeal on a national and international level. With technology today,
it is much more possible and likely to appeal to a larger audience overseas
based on your sound and their market; or vice versa.
CV: Has modern-day digital technology made everyone an artist on some level in
your opinion? Have the actual lines of what really is an artist been blurred?
Die Tired: Artistry as
a band has evolved into a much broader spectrum as it now includes elements
associated with the way of life and brand that the band supports and displays
to their fans. Fans are no longer just a fan of a band’s music. They become
fans of a brand, a lifestyle, and the music that carries those elements across
various aspects of their personal lives.
CV: How would you describe the difference between an artist who follows trends
and one who sets them?
Die Tired: Die Tired
is a band that sets the trend. We view ourselves as the leader in our area,
regionally, and soon to be nationally at reviving an alternative rock, grunge,
pop-punk blend that fans are craving.
CV: Has music overall been splintered into
too many sub-genres in an effort to appease fan tastes in your opinion? And has
such fan appeasements, in actuality, weakened music’s impact as a whole by
dividing audiences?
Die Tired: Sub genres
actually make the artistry of a band more appealing to listeners. It becomes an
intriguing aspect for fans that follow a band to learn about the multiple
layers of influences and sub genres that contribute to the band’s overall sound
and identity.
CV: What can fans expect to see coming next
from you?
Die Tired: We are
currently working on recording new tracks and promoting our songs to radio. We
have plans in place to continue to play regional shows and the momentum is
taking us in the direction of a tour someday soon.
CV: Thanks again for taking some time and talking. It is greatly appreciated.
