Interview with Singer and Strüng Jewerly Designer and Founder Jenny Mann

By Mick Michaels

COSMICK VIEW: Hello, Jenny! Welcome to The Cosmick View. Thank you for taking some time out of your day to chat with me, it's greatly appreciated.

CV: How does being a jewelry designer and a musical artist compare to one another? Do you see one creative outlet making the other stronger in return?
Jenny Mann: It's actually funny because in a way they are very similar. Both allow me to use my creativity but in different ways. And with both of my endeavors we have the most supportive fan base which keeps me motivated every day. I think having been in the music industry for so many years has really given me the tools I need to excel in the jewelry business.

CV: What was the genesis of such an endeavor to incorporate a celebrity's used guitar strings to create unique jewelry designs?
JM: When we started Strung, we kind of always had that idea from the get go. We wanted to allow our customers to really wear a piece of the music. What could be more special than wearing a piece of jewelry that your favorite artist has played.

CV: How did Strüng find itself with Grammy Award winner Lzzy Hale on board with the company's idea to donate her used guitar strings for such one-of-a-kind pieces of wearable art?
JM: Lzzy had been a bucket list artist since we started our company. Two years ago at NAMM we had the opportunity to meet her at a Gibson Guitar Party and ran the idea past her. She loved what we were doing and we had kept in touch with her over the years. After COVID, we were finally able to launch our first line together and it was a massive success. Can't wait to see what the future holds.

CV: For you as an artist; lead vocalist for the band Blameshift, what does having such a dynamic performer like Lzzy Hale bring to the table, not only for Strüng's product line but for you as an individual performer?
JM:
Having Lzzy on board really brings a level of credibility to our line. She is such a rockstar and quite frankly the most decorated female rock singer in the game, so it's such an honor to work with her. As an artist, I look up to her as well so it's just a win/win all around.

CV: Lzzy's participation definitely brings a level of prestige and awareness for the cause as proceeds from the rock jewelry's sales goes to benefit MusicCares. How did you become involved with the charity?

JM: With every one of our artist launches we partner with a different charity. Sometimes we pick the charity and other times we let the artist choose. For this particular launch, Lzzy chose MusiCares to donate to and we were more than thrilled to work with such a great cause.

CV: Let's talk a little about your band, Blameshift…. Do you feel the feminine presence within an artistic venture tends to make a band more rounded and versatile compared to an all masculine lineup? Is there more of an edge in your opinion?
JM: In my opinion, yes. When we started Blameshift over 10 years ago, there weren't many female fronted bands. It was definitely challenging being accepted in the rock scene. Over the years things have really changed a lot and female fronted bands have become a lot more common. I think it really brings another dimension to the music and a different vibe to a genre that is very male focused.

CV: Female fronted Rock bands seem to create more of a collective, inclusive atmosphere, where the audience population is not left with feelings of alienation or even abandonment with some bands. Do you see this to be the case from your side of the stage?
JM: Yes, absolutely. Female fronted bands have to work harder in general to be accepted in the rock world...so, with that comes a lot of inclusivity amongst the fan base. Our fans are our family. Everyone who comes to our shows is made to feel like they are part of our world. We appreciate each and every person.

CV: With live music starting to come back around the world since the start of the pandemic, what was one thing you may have now come to appreciate more than before with performing?
JM:
We appreciate everything more. We played our first show back in June and it was by far one of the best shows we've ever played in our lives. The crowd was just so hungry for music and the energy was like nothing we had ever felt before. I think we just appreciate the ability for people to get together again and share our common passion, music.

CV: Are there any future plans for bringing on other well-known performers to create more unique, custom rock jewelry designs?
JM:
Of course. We have many artists that are in the works and each and every one is exciting. We can't wait to really grow this part of our business and give the fans one of a kind jewelry that they can wear forever.

CV: What more can we see coming from Strüng in the near future?
JM:
Well, first of all we plan on being at all the biggest music festivals in the country where we can meet the fans and really connect to people on a different level than just selling online. We also have some really exciting new artist launches as well as new product lines coming soon!!

CV: Thank you again Jenny for spending some time talking and sharing with our readers. I wish you all the best and continued success.
JM: Thanks for having me!
Keep rockin!

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
