Internet Radio: Today's Modern Music Platform part 2 - Interview with DJ Jay B Metal from The Touch Of Evil Metal Show

by Mick Michaels

Internet Radio has made the seemingly impossible possible for all artists... establishing a platform that has no limits and where no one is denied access. But more so than it's ability to reach millions worldwide in a single click and its non-discriminate playlists, we find at the helm the DJs who fight the good fight to get the music heard. Most often with little to no show budget, it is a labor of love driven by passion for the music and a deep respect for the artist.
I spoke to three current Internet DJs, asking them each the same set of 10 questions.  One thing was evident; it's all about sharing the music.

Interview 2: DJ Jay B Metal from The Touch Of Evil Metal Show

COSMICK VIEW: Hello Jay! Welcome to the Cosmick View. Thank you for taking some time out of your day and sharing with us, it is greatly appreciated.

How did you get started in internet radio?
JAY B METAL: The love of music and working at Z191TV, an internet TV show that showcases unground music, one of the other staff members was an online DJ so I got a gig at that station as I wanted to be a DJ since I was a kid.

CV: Is it more than just spinning MP3s?
JBM: Yes, it’s sharing the love of music and turning people onto music they never heard.

CV: What sets your show apart from other internet radio shows?
JBM: I try to focus on independent and underground bands and I prefer to play the deeper albums tracks not just the “hits” or “singles”.

CV: Biggest challenge being an interview radio host?
JBM: Keeping up with submissions we have almost 40 affiliates so we have a full inbox everyday. And during interviews I like to ask non typical questions so it takes time to prepare.

CV: Top 5 most outrageous interviews you have conducted?
JBM: Unleash The Archers, Skin Drone, Mindmaze, A Sound of Thunder, Sean Peck from Cage.

CV: Most memorable guest?
JBM: I would have to say Brittany Slayes from Unleash the Archers, she was in chat but very responsive to everyone including me.

CV: Is there an artist or band you won't invite back on your show? You don't need to name names, but share with us as to why this particular band/artist won't get a second invite.
JBM: Not yet but someone’s ego will probably get them in this category.

CV: If you had only five songs to choose to play for every show, what would they be?
JBM: "A Touch of Evil" – Judas Priest,  I named my show “A Touch of Evil” because of this song...
"Sitting In A Dream" – Ronnie Dio one of my Favorite songs by him from 1974...
"Break the Spell" – Hellion... "Upon Ashen Wings" – Unleash The Archers
"Leaves" – The Gathering, Anneke has the most angelic voice on the planet.

CV: Who is someone you would like to interview that you haven't?
JBM: Top of my list is Rob Halford. Judas Priest is my Favorite band.

CV: Biggest highlight for you being a DJ?
JBM: Being able to meet so many cool bands and people I wouldn’t have met otherwise.

CV: Thank you again for spending some time talking and sharing with our readers. I wish you all the best and continued success.
