Interview with the band Piranha

Cosmick View: Hello, and welcome to The Cosmick View! Thanks for taking some time out of your day to speak with us. It's greatly appreciated.
CV: Over the past several years, the music industry has essentially changed multiple times. How have you navigated these changes and what positives have you taken away that keeps you moving forward?
Piranha: The music industry has changed dramatically, especially with the way people discover, consume, and share music. As a band, we’ve learned that you have to adapt without losing your identity. The tools have changed, but the reason we make music hasn’t. We still believe in writing songs that have character, emotion, and something real to say. The positive thing we’ve taken from all these changes is that there are fewer barriers between an artist and listeners. A band from Greece can reach people anywhere in the world today.
CV: Artists everywhere seem to be struggling to find not only an audience but a stage to perform on. Do you feel this is more of a temporary trend or more of a signal that music has lost its impact?
Piranha: For us, the live experience remains one of the most important parts of being in a metal band. There is something completely different about standing in front of an audience and sharing that energy face-to-face. Trends may change, venues may come and go, but that connection isn't going anywhere.
CV: Genre classification has essentially altered listener perspective and has redefined music categories. Has these perceptions changed the way you write music? Is songwriting more of a “fitting into a niche” than writing from the heart nowadays?
Piranha: We’ve never wanted to write music simply because it fits into a particular category. Of course, every band has influences, and genre can give people a general idea of what to expect, but ultimately a song has to feel right to us first. If something comes naturally while we're writing, we'll follow it.
CV: Tell us a little about what you have going on right now.
Piranha: Right now, our focus is on continuing to move Piranha forward. We’re working on new material and looking at the next steps for the band, while also keeping our attention on live opportunities. We’ve always believed that a band shouldn't stand still. There is a lot of energy around Piranha at the moment, and we're excited about what we're building.
CV: How do you stay inspired as an artist?
Piranha: Inspiration comes from everywhere. Obviously, music itself is a huge part of it, but life, people, experiences, frustration, excitement, and even difficult moments can become fuel for creativity.
CV: Is there ever the fear of possibly repeating yourself musically over time?
Piranha: When you've been making music for years, you naturally develop certain characteristics and sounds that people associate with you. We don't see that as necessarily negative. We want Piranha to sound like Piranha, but we also want the music to evolve. As people and musicians, we're constantly changing, so hopefully that naturally finds its way into the songs.
CV: Many critics believe music has lost it touch...it’s connection with the audience. Is that really the case on some level, or has music found itself competing for attention in a sea of over stimuli?
Piranha: We think it's more about overstimulation than music losing its connection. People are surrounded by an incredible amount of content every day. There are new songs, videos, social media posts, streaming platforms, and notifications constantly demanding attention. Naturally, it becomes harder for any individual song to stand out.
CV: What do you believe music has given you that nothing else would have?
Piranha: Music has given us a way to express things that are sometimes impossible to put into ordinary words. It has also given us experiences, friendships, memories, and opportunities that we simply wouldn't have had otherwise.
CV: What more can fans expect coming from you this year and beyond?
Piranha: We’re excited about the material we're working on and about the possibilities ahead for Piranha. We also want to get back in front of audiences and create those live moments that are such an important part of metal. We’re extremely grateful to everyone who has supported Piranha and continues to believe in the band. The best way we can repay that support is by continuing to create, evolve, and stay true to who we are.
