Interview with Decibel Dogs
Cosmick View: Hello, and welcome to The Cosmick View! Thanks for taking some time out of your day to speak with us. It's greatly appreciated.
CV : Over the past several years, the music industry has essentially changed multiple times. How have you navigated these changes and what positive have you taken away to keep you moving forward?
DD: We are basically embracing the new technology, trying to use Spotify and all the streaming services, YouTube, etc. to our advantage to help promote our music and the band as much as possible ..you can get quite a global imprint going through these various channels.
CV: With everyone seem to be struggling to find not only an audience, but a stage to perform on. Do you feel this is more of a temporary trend of more signal that music has lost its impact?
DD: It certainly seems that live shows are becoming harder and harder to sell tickets too between the price and the general economy. Most bands keep their show as streamlined and cost-effective as possible, also playing smaller venues. Social media and easy access to content may make some people lazy. However, I believe it also gives you a chance to reach a greater audience.
CV: Genre classification is essentially altered listener perspective in his redefined music categories. Has this perception changed the way you write music? Is songwriting more of a fitting into a niche and writing from the heart nowadays.
DD: Decibel Dogs will never write to fit into a niche. We will always write from the heart. We write about everyday situations, the good the bad and the ugly.
CV: Tell us a little about what you have going on right now.
DD: In addition to releasing new music via our upcoming record “Unleashed” and videos for our new tracks “Day Zero” and “Unbroken” we’ve got some really cool live shows coming up, including a big battle of the bands in Cleveland, Ohio being judged by some big rock stars like Vinny Appice and Doug Aldrich. We also have a big show coming up down at Stet’s Bar in Fort Myers to celebrate Stet Howland’s birthday and a cool show in November opening for Gunshine.
CV: How do you stay inspired as an artist?
DD: we are just trying to bring back the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll and pass it along to the next generation that’s what keeps us inspired.
CV: Is there ever the fear of possibly repeating yourself musically over time?
DD: Sometimes when an artist finds something that works, they tend to repeat themselves, but we will always try to keep ourselves fresh. We have a pretty diverse sound. We could be both dark and fun, almost at the same time, ha ha.
CV: Many people say music has lost it’s touch ,it’s connection with the audience. Is that really the case on some level or as music found the self competing for attention in a sea of over stimuli?
DD: There is nothing and there will never be anything as invigorating and uplifting as music. It could also bring you down, which is the beauty of the song, if it moves you in anyway it works.
CV: What do you believe music has given you that nothing else would have?
DD: Music specifically rock ‘n’ roll is a great escape from every day chaos, trouble, and responsibilities of life. It’s a great way to feel young again by listening to stuff you listen to when you were a kid.
CV: What more can fans expect coming from you this year and beyond?
DD: We want to just keep writing and recording some great rock ‘n’ roll. Get out there and rock the crowds live and just keep the spirit alive.
