Interview with the band Steamgenerator
by Mick Michaels
Cosmick View: Hello, and welcome to The Cosmick View. Thanks for taking some time out of your day to speak with us. It's greatly appreciated.
CV: Do you think modern Heavy Metal music has evolved past its origins? Or are things relatively still the same?
Christian: The modern Heavy Metal music has definitely evolved, although in most cases the music still remains very traditional at the core. Of course , the competition was much more manageable in the Gold Rush years. I still believe that many bands today work with the same passion as the bands of the past.
CV: Does Metal still draw people to want to listen and engage the music while challenging the audience to imagine becoming a musician themselves?
Christian: Definitely! You just look at all the newcomers in the scene. So many new albums are released nowadays, so many new bands, that you've already lost track. Someone has to listen to all this new music and someone has to produce all the new stuff. So it seems, that Metal still inspires and moves people to play in bands.
CV: Many believe that success for a band relies on three major components; good distribution, good PR and good booking. In the new modern music industry, all of that is without a doubt achievable by the artist themselves. Do you feel more and more established acts will go the independent route and eliminate the middle man component?
Christian: I believe that to gain complete Independence from the mechanism of the music business ,a very good network must be built by yourself. But that takes many years and requires many good relationships and partners. The experience and relationships, that a label or a promotor can offer are often not to be underestimated. But I wish every band good luck ,if they want to go the independent way. The possibilities are there for it anyway nowadays.
CV: Do you feel that the idea of a band eliminating those second and third party partnerships; labels, management, bookers, etc., and doing things on their own, is a direct result of artists and bands being misled and taken advantage of for so long?
Christian: Maybe! This way, a band naturally also retains complete control of their own work. I said, that the possibility for this is open to everyone nowadays and tools like Bandcamp allow bands, to bring their music directly to the people.
CV: Do you feel there is a need or want for artists of any style or genre to rise above the past and to do more musically…artistically? Or can a level of comfort be reached and maintained as a means to sustainability?
Christian: If a tree no longer has its roots, the tree will fall in the next storm. We should not dwell on the past, but we must look into the future with an open mind, without forgetting our ancestors.
CV: Many critics believe music is irrelevant today... just background noise. As a musician who is out there writing, releasing, and performing, from your perspective, do you still see music relevance in the world today? Is there a connection?
Christian: Friedrich Nietzsche once said: "Without music, life would be a mistake", and I completely agree with him.
CV: Has music in general split into too many genres and sub-genre classifications in an effort just to please an indecisive audience in your opinion? Is it just more of a marketing ploy to funnel buyers to a specific brand?
Christian: These divisions are unfortunately necessary, because there are far too many new releases and bands .No one can keep track of all of them anymore, so it's a need to put bands into genres and sub-genres, so that the fans know, which bands they might like. It is a necessity due to the complete oversupply.
CV: What more can fans expect to see coming from you in 2026?
Christian: Our next project "Hopeless Romantic", will be released in March 2026.Then our album will officially appear for the first time on CD through the fine Berlin label Metalloscope Music .The work originally was released in 2023,but was previously only available as a CDR at the bands concerts and thus only accessible to a small circle. This new edition is welcome, as it makes the material more widely available. As a bonus, the CD also includes the complete debut EP " Black As Coal" from 2019,providing a comprehensive insight into Steamgenerator development.
CV: Thanks again for taking the time to share with our readers. We wish you all the best and continued success.

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, author, show host, big dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word. Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
