interview with From Ashes Reborn
by Mick Michaels
Cosmick View: Hello, and welcome to The Cosmick View. Thanks for taking some time out of your day to speak with us. It's greatly appreciated.
CV: Do you think modern Heavy Metal music has evolved past its origins? Or are things relatively still the same?
From Ashes Reborn: It’s a mix of both. The sonic boundaries have definitely evolved—production is crisper, and technicality has reached insane levels. However, the core spirit—the rebellion, the darkness, and the power of a great melody—remains exactly the same as it was in the early days. We stand on the shoulders of giants while trying to find our own path.
CV: Does Metal still draw people to want to listen and engage the music while challenging the audience to imagine becoming a musician themselves?
From Ashes Reborn: Absolutely. Metal is a very "participatory" genre. When you hear a riff that hits you in the chest or a solo that makes your hair stand up, it triggers that urge to pick up a guitar or hit the drums. It’s about that shared energy; the audience isn't just watching, they are feeling the blueprints of the music.
CV: Many believe that success for a band relies on three major components; good distribution, good PR and good booking. In the new modern music industry, all of that is without a doubt achievable by the artist themselves. Do you feel more and more established acts will go the independent route and eliminate the middle man component?
From Ashes Reborn: We are seeing that already. For a studio-focused project like us, the tools are all there. Going independent gives you 100% creative control. While labels still have their place for massive global reach, the "middle man" is no longer a requirement for success. Modern musicians have to be entrepreneurs as much as artists.
CV: Do you feel that the idea of a band eliminating those second and third party partnerships; labels, management, bookers, etc., and doing things on their own, is a direct result of artists and bands being misled and taken advantage of for so long?
From Ashes Reborn: Historically, yes. There is a long-standing trauma in the industry regarding bad contracts. But today, it’s also about speed and agility. Why wait six months for a label’s approval when you can finish a track in your home studio and have it on Spotify the next week? Independence is the ultimate protection against being exploited.
CV: Do you feel there is a need or want for artists of any style or genre to rise above the past and to do more musically…artistically? Or can a level of comfort be reached and maintained as a means to sustainability?
From Ashes Reborn: You can reach a comfort level, but for us, that’s where creativity dies. Artistically, you should always be chasing "Utopia"—a perfect vision that keeps moving further away. If you aren't trying to outdo your previous work, you’re just a tribute act to yourself. Stagnation is the enemy of metal.
CV: Many critics believe music is irrelevant today... just background noise. As a musician who is out there writing, releasing, and performing, from your perspective, do you still see music relevance in the world today? Is there a connection?
From Ashes Reborn: Critics have been saying that for decades. To the casual listener, it might be background noise, but to the metal community, music is a lifeline. In a world that feels increasingly divided and chaotic, that connection between a musician’s emotion and a listener’s ears is one of the few authentic things left.
CV: Has music in general split into too many genres and sub-genre classifications in an effort just to please an indecisive audience in your opinion? Is it just more of a marketing ploy to funnel buyers to a specific brand?
From Ashes Reborn: Sub-genres can be a double-edged sword. They help fans find what they like, but they can also be used to "box in" artists for easier marketing. We call ourselves Melodic Death Metal because it’s a helpful guide, but we don't let the label dictate what we can or cannot play. Quality should always outweigh classification.
CV: What more can fans expect to see coming from From Ashes Reborn in 2026?
From Ashes Reborn: The focus is entirely on our new album "Chasing Utopia" (out March 6th). Fans can expect a top production and a full length album with the trademark sound. With two singles already released, listeners can already get an impression how FROM ASHES REBORN sounds in 2026.
CV: Thanks again for taking the time to share with our readers. We wish you all the best and continued success.

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, author, show host, big dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word. Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
