Interview with Mike Burt of Limberlost
By Mick Michaels
COSMICK VIEW: Hello! Welcome to The Cosmick View. Thank you for taking some time out of your day to chat with me, it is greatly appreciated.
CV: What do you feel sets the band apart from other bands, especially those of similar sound and style? What's specific allure your sound and style have that has people taking notice?
MB: What truly makes Limberlost stand out is the balance of polish and rawness—we’re equally comfortable delivering arena-ready choruses as they are stripping it down to emotional core moments. Our songs often blend soulful vocal depth, grinding rock instrumentation, and cinematic dynamics in a way that feels both fresh and familiar, inviting comparisons to bands like Evanescence, Halestorm, and Within Temptation, while still carving our own unmistakable path.
CV: For any band, dynamics is key to grabbing an audience's attention. What do you feel is the main ingredient to having such a captivating dynamic and being able to bring something more to the music?
MB: Good writing and a deep connection to the music. Music is designed to make you feel and a truly authentic performance comes from that connection.
CV: How would you describe the ultimate musical experience for your fans? And how does the band go about creating that musical vision, while generating the impact the band wants to have on its audience?
MB: We approach it like musical theater. The look, the sounds, the movement, the spectacle all need to balance and produce energy.
CV: The music business has always been one that regardless of who you are, where you came from or where you've been, you can either sink or swim. Does this type of realism have any effect on how the band drives itself to succeed?
MB: Absolutely. No guarantees in this business... but it is a business and you better have that part down. Especially in todays climate. No one is out there looking to "discover" you and "sign" you. So you can't adopt this attitude "that if my music is good then they will come". Tons of amazing music out there that you will never hear because there is A) way too much music flooding the airwaves everyday( and it's only going to get worse with AI) and B) the attitude among most that spending money to promote is somehow disingenuous.
CV: In your opinion, is there any middle ground for a band or is it a do or die climate in today's music industry?
MB: Well that depends on your goals. What constitutes "do" and what constitutes "die". The reality is most musicians and bands don't create specific goals and business plans to back them. Most bands are in mimic mode and attach success to whatever someone else is doing. It's being in a smoke and mirrors business and at the same time falling for the smoke and mirrors. For instance we set very specific goals for what we wanted out of this new album, created a plan to achieve them, then surrounded ourselves with the right team to achieve it and then we are relentlessly executing. Still with absolutely no guarantees of success. And yet sometimes the success is measured in the trying. I don't know but this is definitely a personal not an industry question. The industry doesn't give a shit about our success, only how it can profit from it so do you and be happy.
CV: Does the band’s outward appearance align with its true inward nature from your perspective?
MB: Oh hell ya. This band? ... yes just come out and check us out when we come through.
CV: What's at the core of the band's songwriting approach? Are there certain elements that are considered when a song begins to take form and evolves?
MB: Songwriting is an artform within the artform. This new album was written and produced by Brittany and Mike and they had a specific "concept" and vision both sonically and visual. But to answer the question, the mission of the band in general is always at the core.
CV: Do you allow things to just happen when writing; seeing where a song goes, or is there a certain course of action and structure you keep a song on, thus, essentially making it destined to achieve its overall potential?
MB: Well sometimes we have just let them flow. Again this album "Beautiful Scars" had some predetermined goals that set some criteria. For example every song was produced to be radio and commercially ready.
CV: Do you feel how the fans and critics describe the band’s music accurately reflects how you would describe the band’s music?
MB: Honestly what we think isn't important. It's put out there for you to describe. We hate to attach genre to what we do. That's all you as is assigning meaning. The moment we start assigning meaning is the moment we start to alienate.
CV: Walk us through a typical show for the band...what can fans who have never seen you perform expect?
MB: Energy and Magic. We endeavor to bring our music to life, get our songs stuck in your head and have you walk away with a feeling that you were just apart of something.
CV: What more can fans look forward to seeing coming from the band?
MB: More live shows this summer and several new videos that will appear from this album and we already have a few for our next album that will drop in mid 2026. Might hear one or two of those in our upcoming sets.
CV: Thank you again for spending some time talking and sharing with our readers. I wish you all the best and continued success.

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word. Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
