Interview with the Band Shellshock Lullaby

By Mick Michaels

COSMICK VIEW: Hello! Welcome to The Cosmick View and MBM Ten Pounder! Thank you for taking some time out of your day to chat with me, it's greatly appreciated.
Shellshock Lullaby: Thanks for having us! We're excited to share a bit about our journey.

CV: Every artist experiences highs and lows. Many struggle just to move from one level to the next, and some, unfortunately, never do. What would you consider to be a pivotal point in an artist's career which would take them from one level to the next that a struggling artist should be aware of? Is it an individual mindset or does it equate more to opportunity? Or is it something altogether different in your opinion?
Shellshock Lullaby: We believe it’s a combination of mindset and opportunity. An artist needs to stay dedicated, continuously improve their craft, and be open to feedback. At the same time, seizing opportunities—like collaborations, festivals, or even social media presence—can significantly propel an artist's career.

CV: What do you feel an artist can do right now to stay relevant, especially in an environment, such as the present, where performing in front of a live audience is not an option?
Shellshock Lullaby: In today’s landscape, engaging with fans online is crucial. Artists can release new material, connect through social media, and even host virtual performances or Q&A sessions. Maintaining that connection helps keep the momentum going.

CV: What have you found to be the balancing point between relevance and over saturation when it comes to being an artist? Is there a fine line between the two or can it be looked at to some degree as the two essentially being one in the same?
Shellshock Lullaby: It’s definitely a fine line. Staying relevant means sharing authentic content and maintaining a presence, but over-saturation can occur if the quality of that content diminishes. It’s important to find a rhythm that works for both the artist and their audience.

CV: Is there any level of consideration, or even concern, to deliver on expectations, whether it being your own or that of the fans, when working on new material?
Shellshock Lullaby: Absolutely. We want to create music that resonates with us while also connecting with our fans. There’s always a balance between our creative vision and what our listeners expect, but ultimately, staying true to our sound is what drives us.

CV: For you, what’s first when it comes to songwriting…is it a matter of lyrics, melody, chords, beat, attitude? Or is it more organic than that where the moment dictates the process and outcome?
Shellshock Lullaby: It’s very organic for us. Sometimes a melody or a lyric will spark an idea, and other times it may start with a beat. The moment often dictates how the song unfolds, making it a unique experience each time.

CV: What do you believe makes songwriting more honest and impactful...that something that both the artist and listener can share?
Shellshock Lullaby: Honesty in songwriting comes from writing about real experiences and emotions. When we share our stories, it creates a connection with listeners who may relate to those feelings, making the music more impactful.

CV: What do you feel has been the greatest contribution to your success as an artist?
Shellshock Lullaby: Our ability to adapt and evolve as musicians while staying authentic to our roots has been key. Building a supportive community and connecting with our fans has also played a huge role in our journey.

CV: What's next for you? What can fans expect to see coming up?
Shellshock Lullaby: We’re currently rehearsing and preparing to return to live shows after our hiatus. Fans can look forward to new music, including our latest track "Songs in the Movies," and hopefully some exciting performances in the near future!

CV: Thank you again for spending some time talking and sharing with our readers. I wish you all the best and continued success.
Shellshock Lullaby: Thank you! We appreciate the support and can’t wait to share more with everyone!

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, author, show host, big dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
