Interview with Blindness & Light
By Mick Michaels
CV: Every artist experiences highs and lows. Many struggle just to move from one level to the next, and some, unfortunately, never do. What would you consider to be a pivotal point in an artist's career which would take them from one level to the next that a struggling artist should be aware of? Is it an individual mindset or does it equate more to opportunity? Or is it something all together different in your opinion?
I think there’s still many people out there that think they’re going to be magically discovered by some guy in a big hat that turns up in a limo waving a check book. Not gonna happen. Wake up! Love what you do and keep going and going. Spend less time thinking about how unfair it all is and get on with endless self promotion.
CV: What have you found to be the balancing point between relevance and over saturation when it comes to being an artist? Is there a fine line between the two or can it be looked at to some degree as the two essentially being one and the same?
We’re certainly not in danger of over-saturation. We’re constantly trying to get noticed by new listeners. Things do build up but slowly if you keep writing new songs and releasing tracks every 2 months. No time to take a breath.
CV: Is there any level of consideration, or even concern, to deliver on expectations, whether it being your own or that of the fans, when working on new material?
It’s impossible to appeal to everyone. It’s easy to overthink songwriting. We are not trying to write for a particular market or satisfy the psyche of every individual. We just write what we like and if someone else is into what we do then that’s fantastic …. apparently those like-minded people do exist…..they keep us going! Endless undying love goes out to them.
CV: For you, what’s first when it comes to songwriting…is it a matter of lyrics melody, chords, beat, attitude? Or is it more organic than that where the moment dictates the process and outcome?
It tends to be chords on an acoustic guitar first. Then structure. Melody. Then lyrics. They all modify each other. The next step is to take this and develop it into a full band arrangement…..this is the fun part.
CV: What do you believe makes songwriting more honest and impactful...that something that both the artist and listener can share?
Avoid recycling second hand ideas and clichƩs. Be true to yourself and maintain genuine independence.
CV: What do you feel has been the greatest contribution to your success as an artist?
I’m not even sure what success means! It’s so subjective. Time is the most valuable asset. Redundancy was certainly what gave us time and breathed life into Blindness & Light.
CV: What's next for you? What can fans expect to see coming up?
We’ll continue to release a single every couple of months. On top of that we’re busy recording album number 3 which’ll be out late in 2026. The 2nd album “I Dreamt I Had Insomnia” is out on CD and limited edition colored vinyl as well as the usual streaming platforms. The limited edition vinyl is selling well and there’s only 100 made so make sure you get one on Bandcamp will you can…. link at the end. Stream, stream, stream and follow our socials.
CV: Thank you again for spending some time talking and sharing with
our readers. I wish you all the best and continued success.
Cheers! Thanks a lot.

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word. Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
