Interview with the Band Victor Sierra

By Mick Michaels

COSMICK VIEW: Hello! Welcome to The Cosmick View and MBM Ten Pounder. Thank you for taking some time out of your day to chat with me, it's greatly appreciated.
Victor Sierra: Hi Mick and Cosmick View readers.

CV: Every artist experiences highs and lows. Many struggle just to move from one level to the next, and some, unfortunately, never do. What would you consider to be a pivotal point in an artist's career which would take them from one level to the next that a struggling artist should be aware of? Is it an individual mindset or does it equate more to opportunity? Or is it something all together different in your opinion?
Victor Sierra: You've got to struggle at every step. An artist's life has always been difficult and will always be. The best is to get used to it and declare your close environment a 'no whining zone'. If you're not in that mood, change and do something else. Some would think of the pre social media era was a golden age, but I think otherwise. Every period of time has advantages and impediments. Victor Sierra, as a band, feel comfortable struggling at the present day.

CV: What do you feel an artist can do right now to stay relevant, especially in an environment, such as the present, where performing in front of a live audience is not an option?
Victor Sierra: I think the only move, for an artist, that can't and won't be challenged is exactly that: performing live. Mostly with AI getting bigger day by day. We won't see replicants taking our place anytime soon but we all know it's already there and able to write songs. Besides, very little money can be made through streaming platforms and physical albums are almost out of the picture. Live shows are what's left for artists to exist. And we love that. So....

CV: What have you found to be the balancing point between relevance and over saturation when it comes to being an artist? Is there a fine line between the two or can it be looked at to some degree as the two essentially being one in the same?
Victor Sierra: I assume you refer to what's life for an artist. One question: what makes you think that I - as an artist – can be the master of that? I can feel the same at once or not. But you're right, sometimes you can feel there's a line. When it comes to decide whether the inception of a song I'm writing is worth a step forward or not, for example. This line can remain forever and disappear the day after.

CV: Is there any level of consideration, or even concern, to deliver on expectations, whether it being your own or that of the fans, when working on new material?
Victor Sierra: In the first place I would rather go for my own concern. By the way, no concern at all. I don't think this way. But who knows? Maybe Victor Sierra's fans have a secret influence on us I don't know about?

CV: For you, what’s first when it comes to songwriting…is it a matter of lyrics melody, chords, beat, attitude? Or is it more organic than that where the moment dictates the process and outcome?
Victor Sierra: You name it. Definitely organic. Bits of a song busy being born are playing in my head. It can be anything, sometimes beats, sometimes words or even a special atmosphere. I can't help it. I have to record something immediately. Humming in my iphone if I'm out of home. It can happen in a restaurant or at the petrol station. They think I'm a lunatic.

CV: What do you believe makes songwriting more honest and impactful...that something that both the artist and listener can share?
Victor Sierra: I don't know how to answer this one. I can dig a song I just wrote and our fans don't click to it. Or the other way around. I can have my doubts.

CV: What do you feel has been the greatest contribution to your success as an artist?
Victor Sierra: Being myself!

CV: What's next for you? What can fans expect to see coming up?
Victor Sierra: We're now working with Deadfall Management. They will help us with the release of our new single next month. We'll hopefully hit the road and tour as soon as possible. Stay tuned!

CV: Thank you again for spending some time talking and sharing with
our readers. I wish you all the best and continued success.
Victor Sierra: Thanks Mick! Same to you. See you soon.

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
