Interview with the Gents from Radio Rubbish (UK)
By Mick Michaels
Cosmick View: Hello, and welcome to The Cosmick View. Thanks for taking some time out of your day to speak with us. It’s greatly appreciated.
CV: Why do you feel punk has diminished in popularity?
Radio Rubbish: Radio Rubbish reckon there’s a conspiracy conducted by the dark forces behind boring music to silence punk. We’re going to stop that.
Sid version: Some parts of the current punk scene over emphasize the aesthetic and under emphasize the attitude. Back in the day it was a fast moving constantly evolving scene where influences were sucked in from all over the place and the music and the scene was healthier for that.
Could that argument be said for a lot of styles and genres?
There’s also a conspiracy to keep cash out of the pockets of independent artists and siphon more of it into the corporates. We’re going to stop that as well.
CV: Has music in general lost relevance in the world?
Radio Rubbish: No, it’s just being exploited more efficiently. There’s a musical top down totalitarianism that means when Coldplay are on the main stage at Glastonbury, all the other stages are half empty. That’s cos people are scared of not having Coldplay selfies to show their friends.
CV: There will be many who would protest and say that Punk is still alive and kicking in 2024 with bands such as SECT, Gouge Away, and Eevie Echoes & The Locations to name a few. What do you feel separates the Punk you feel is gone compared to the Punk of modern times?
Radio Rubbish: There is still good punk around, and great punk festivals like Rebellion. But the way it’s covered seems to confine it more to genre and the followers of that genre, which diminishes its reach. If this was 1977 0or ’78, those bands would be on TV, in the charts and on the main stages at all the big festivals. We want to see video rehearsal footage of SECT, Gouge Away, and Eevie Echoes & The Locations and ourselves replacing boring TV shows like Strictly Come Dancing and Love Island in the schedules.
CV: Your new song, “MAGA MAGA,” seems to be part of a campaign that pushes itself to the center of a current strategic movement on the part of the opposition to possibly sway the vote. Being from the UK, why does Radio Rubbish feel so compelled to offer its sentiments in such a way? How does taking up this cause benefit you?
Radio Rubbish: Because the US is the largest global nuclear superpower, and there are US military bases in our country. Radio Rubbish is part of the global opposition to Trump, we’re not a musical wing of the Democrats.
CV: If former President Trump does win the upcoming election, where do you believe that leaves Punk in terms of as a genre and as a cultural ideology?
Radio Rubbish: At the forefront of the cultural resistance. Especially if he bans it.
CV: Similar questions: If current Vice-President Harris wins the upcoming election, where do you believe that leaves Punk in terms of as a genre and as a cultural ideology?
Radio Rubbish: At the forefront of the cultural resistance. Especially if she bans it.
CV: All buffooning aside, what would you like to see happen with this election in regard to its impact on the world as the world?
Radio Rubbish: Trump is the worst option. So any outcome that will help prevent Trump winning must be a good thing. Including our new single MAGA MAGA!! Out now on all platforms
CV: What more can fans expect to see coming from Radio Rubbish regardless of the election outcome?
Radio Rubbish: We already have music and videos out - including You’ve Been Brainwashed a song about January 6th and related matters - and our first album is mastered and ready to go and out this winter!
CV: Thanks again for taking the time to share with our readers. We wish you all the best and continued success.
Radio Rubbish: Thanks Cosmick View! We here at Radio Rubbish wish you a gloriously Punk and New Wave day. And good luck on November 5th!

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word. Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
