Interview with the Band Evolucija

By Mick Michaels

The Cosmick View: Hello, and welcome to The Cosmick View/MBM Ten Pounder! Thanks for taking some time to chat with us!
Evolucija: Thanks for having us!

CV: Give a brief overview of the band’s sound and style and how does that viewpoint uniquely describe the music?
Evolucija: Our music blends various emotive elements (melodies, lyrics, arrangements) to create an intensely emotional experience for the listeners. Orchestral elements enrich the band's sound and give it a distinctive dimension. The lyrics delve into specific themes related to experiences that are important to us and our audience: social themes and views, love, inner conflicts...

CV: Today, everyone talks about artist and audience connection. Is such a level of connection actually achievable for an artist and if so, how have you made the connection to your fans?
Evolucija: It is truly important to have a connection with the audience. Many musicians use platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook to directly communicate with their fans, sharing recordings, stories, or responding to comments and messages. And besides social media, we love connecting with our fans most at concerts, having personal contact and discussing everything. We share backstage footage, recordings after performances. It's important to emphasize sincerity and authenticity in this relationship, as it often strengthens the connection between the artist and the audience.

CV: Is fan interaction an important part of the band’s inner culture?
Evolucija: Absolutely! Interaction with fans often constitutes a significant part of the band's internal culture. When band members actively engage with fans, a sense of community is created. This can strengthen the bond between the band and the audience, fostering a feeling that everyone is part of the same community that shares a love for music. When fans feel they have personal interaction with band members, they often become more loyal. This can result in support through purchasing music, attending concerts, or promoting the band among their friends.

Interaction with fans, for us as a band, can be inspiring. When we see how our music affects people, it gives us motivation for further creation and performance. Direct feedback from fans is highly valuable for us. Through comments, questions, and reactions, we can better understand what the audience likes or dislikes, contributing to the improvement of our work. Therefore, the internal culture of the band often involves and supports the idea of interacting with fans as an important part of the band's identity. It's not just a promotional tool but also a way in which the band builds its world within the music scene.

CV: Can a band truly interact with its fans and still maintain a level of personal privacy without crossing the line and giving up their “personal space” in your opinion?
Evolucija: Great question. A band can establish a connection with fans while maintaining a level of personal privacy. We choose what we want to share with our fans, what we want to be public and accessible. This includes only what contributes to the relationship with fans, while our private life remains outside the public domain. The relationship with the audience should be built on the basis of art, not on personal details. As a band, we need to create a specific public image that we want to present and should be mindful of how we portray ourselves to the public, all while preserving personal space and privacy.

CV: Is music, and its value, viewed differently around the world in your opinion?  If so, what do you see as the biggest difference in such multiple views among various cultures?
Evolucija: Certainly, music is experienced in various ways around the world, depending on cultural, historical, and social contexts. Different cultures have their specific traditions, instruments, rhythms, and tonalities that shape how people perceive music.

Globalization has led to greater accessibility to various musical styles and genres worldwide, which can influence how music is perceived in different cultures. Different cultures have different ways of valuing music, but music, as a language that transcends borders, can also be a universal means of expressing emotions and connecting people worldwide.

CV: Do you feel that a band that has an international appeal, will tend to connect more so to American audiences? Would they be more enticed or intrigued to see the band over indigenous acts because of the foreign flavor?
Evolucija: Bands with international appeal often have the opportunity to connect with diverse audiences around the world. Regarding connecting with the American audience, it is very important for us as a band.

America is a vast musical landscape and attracting the American audience is often considered a crucial step for success on a global level. I presume that the interest of the American audience, whether they are foreign or local bands, is primarily due to authenticity and uniqueness. I believe these factors are key to attracting the American audience, which I am confident values originality in music. Authenticity captures attention regardless of the band's geographical origin.

CV: Has modern-day digital technology made everyone an artist on some level in your opinion? Have the actual lines of what really is an artist been blurred?

Evolucija: Digital technology has certainly democratized access to art, enabling people to express their creativity in ways that were not possible before. However, this does not necessarily mean that everyone becomes a high-level artist or that the real distinctions of what truly constitutes an artist are completely erased. Therefore, even though digital technology allows for the spread of creativity and expression, differences between those genuinely dedicated to art and those simply engaging in creative pursuits still exist. Artistic talent, skills, and a deeper understanding of art continue to distinguish between amateurs and professionals in the world of art.

CV: How would you describe the difference between an artist who follows trends and one who sets them?
Evolucija: Artists who follow trends create what is popular at a given moment in the industry or society. They are aware of current tendencies and try to adapt their work to these trends to attract the audience's attention.

On the other hand, artists who set trends are often innovative and create something new that becomes an inspiration to others. These artists possess authenticity and a vision that surpasses current fashions, and they enjoy experimenting or exploring something new in art.

CV: Has music overall been splintered into too many sub-genres in an effort to appease fan tastes in your opinion? And has such fan appeasements, in actuality, weakened music’s impact as a whole by dividing audiences?
Evolucija: The diversity of subgenres in music has led to richness and breadth of expression in this art form. Considering how much music has evolved and how different cultures and technologies have developed, it is natural for new styles and subgenres to emerge. This is a result of artists' creativity, as they seek to experiment and create something new. Of course, this can lead to the formation of smaller fan groups loyal to a particular subgenre or artist, and sometimes it can also influence the broader musical culture.

However, simultaneously, such diversity can be a wealth. Different subgenres enable people to find music that best reflects their taste. This has also allowed artists to find their unique path in music and express themselves in a way that is authentic to them.

CV: What can fans expect to see coming next from you?
Evolucija: What our fans can expect from us next are three singles and an album that we are releasing in the spring. Therefore, I would like to invite all fans of our music to follow us on social media; it's a way to stay updated with our new songs, performances, and events.

If you have the opportunity, come to our shows to experience live the energy and emotions that we convey through our music… because nothing inspires us more than direct contact with the audience.

Your opinion is important to us, so feel free to reach out and give us feedback.

CV: Thanks again for taking some time and talking. It is greatly appreciated.
Evolucija: Thank you to you as well for giving us the opportunity to introduce ourselves to your followers and readers on your portal!

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
