Interview with Vocalist Forbidden Rose

by Mick Michaels

Cosmick View: Hello, and welcome to The Cosmick View/Metal Babe Mayhem Ten Pounder. Thanks for taking some time out of your day to speak with us. It's greatly appreciated.

CV: What do you see as your music's biggest contribution? What is setting you apart from others?
Forbidden Rose: I really like creating my own genre a bit. Like Nu-Metal, Goth, Alternative mixed. There is also the possibility that my next song goes in a different direction again. I love to explore myself and my musical art and this makes it more interesting for the listeners too.

CV: Do you think modern music is still evolving? Or are things relatively the same as its always been?
FR: In my opinion, music scene is way more open to new things, unusual things than it used to be. You are free to create whatever you want. This opens gates for more creativity. But on the other hand we have AI today, which can be helpful to gather ideas but also limit your creativity and it is already taking overhand in some ways.

CV: Do you think music in general still draws people to want to listen and engage while maybe even inspiring the audience to imagine becoming an artist themselves?
FB: Since there are platforms like Spotify today, the audience is overwhelmed with auditive content. It really makes it hard for artists to stand and get heard. And people often don’t take the time to really “listen” to your tunes because there are many to skip to. But indeed these platforms make it easier today for almost everyone to create music.

CV: Many believe that an artist or band’s success relies on good PR, good distribution, and good booking. This may be true to some degree. If that’s the case and the focus, where does that leave good songwriting? Do you think that the state of modern music has possibly forgotten about the importance of good songs like so many critics believe?
FB: Yes in some kind of way. When I hear modern music, radio styled, it is very often written very roughly, in a lighter kinda way. To fit the bigger audience. Way too much Autotune for my taste, less instruments and the lyrics seem to matter the least. Different thing in Metal genre, where I think these aspects all still matter very much.

CV: As there are often times when an artist can find that they’re repeating themselves, how do you keep the music you write fresh?
FB: Well I’ve just started my solo project so not an issue for me at the moment cause I have so many ideas. But when this happens, I might take a little break and gather new inspiration. This often happens when you create too fast.

CV: Tell us a little about your latest project?
FB: So the idea of my first single came up when I was very worried about a person I really care about that I was unable to help. That is a very desperate situation and the only thing I could do at that time was writing a song about it. The idea of the “Beauty and the Beast” kinda story finalized in Wacken 2024 when I took a picture of me kissing some kind of Beast Statue haha.

CV: What’s your thoughts on artists and bands currently relying on backing tracks to keep the live performances going? Many critics believe it’s a slap in the face to fans. What do you think?
FB: I think backings are a thing. They can amplify the atmosphere you want to create on stage and intensify the audio experience. Nevertheless, should it be limited to “backings” as it should be supportive but not overtaking the performance. In metal genre, especially in symphonic metal, where you often have orchestral sounds on the album songs, you are unable to recreate this on stage without the backing and this can make the song sound quite empty in some ways which can disappoint the audience too.

CV: What more can fans expect to see coming from you in the coming months?
FB: Oh the second single is already in writing progress. This is only just the beginning of my journey. Also, with the much feedback to my first vocals, mix and stuff, you will see a progressing change with every song as there is a learning journey for a beginning artist as well.

CV: Thanks again for taking the time to share with our readers. We wish you all the best and continued success.
FB: Thanks a lot for reaching out!

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, author, show host, big dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure... so let it begin!
