Interview with Guitarist Raven Hawk of Cranberry Suit

by Mick Michaels

Cosmick View: Hello, Raven, and welcome to The Cosmick View. Thanks for taking some time out of your day to speak with us. It's greatly appreciated.

CV: What do you feel is "challenging modern conventions," and what does that mean for a Rock band today?
Raven Hawk: I think that the biggest difference in how things are done today verses when I started playing in bands is the way booking and promotion is done. It seems like now days, you have to have social media score in order to get anyone’s attention in order to get booked and venues and “promoters” do not promote anymore.

CV: Many artists over the decades have implemented the art of storytelling in their music; Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Jon Bon Jovi. How does Cranberry Suit keep the storytelling tradition alive, and what sets it apart from others?
RH: Our vocalist (Brad Thomas Soul) handles all of the lyrical duties and he is definitely a story teller. I think what sets Brad apart from our predecessors is that he comes from a very personal place. So he is talking to the audience from a pure personal experience perspective, instead of the style of talking about other peoples experiences. He is really allowing the audience to connect with him through his lyrics.

CV: Does music need to be rebellious in nature to attract listeners in your opinion?
RH: I do not necessarily think that music needs to be rebellious, but it does need to be sincere. I think fans gravitate to artist that they believe. I think when artist are faking their performance, just to keep up with the perceived trend, I think the audience can see straight through that.

CV: Do modern-day audiences really require a level of nostalgia in their listening experience, even when discussing brand new, original music?
RH: I don’t think that the nostalgic aspect of music/performance is required, but I do think that audiences appreciate when you can show how deep and where your roots of influence run.

CV: Do you feel music in general still draws people to want to listen and engage... even inspiring the audience to imagine becoming an artist themselves?
RH: Yes. I believe music does and always will speak to the soul of humanity, inspiring them to better themselves and even participate in the craft.
CV: Is making your dreams come true a matter of "believing is achieving?"
RH: Believing is definitely a part of achieving your dream but “Doing” is the most important part and you can’t have any “Quit” in you.

CV: What more can fans expect to see coming from Cranberry Suit in the remainder of 2025 and beyond?
RH: Cranberry Suit fans can expect a few more videos and singles to be released to support the NOMAD effort and we are also just firing up the pre-production machine for a new Ep. We have also just signed a management deal with PCM and we are looking forward to touring in support of the NOMAD release, so hopefully we will get to start meeting our existing fans and making some new ones.

CV: Thanks again Raven for taking the time to share with our readers. We wish you all the best and continued success.
RH: Thank you for your time and support.

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, author, show host, big dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
