Interview with the Band Exxasens

By Mick Michaels

COSMICK VIEW: Hello! Welcome to The Cosmick View. Thank you for taking some time out of your day to chat with me, it's greatly appreciated.

CV: Every artist experiences highs and lows. Many struggle just to move from one level to the next, and some, unfortunately, never do. What would you consider to be a pivotal point in an artist's career which would take them from one level to the next that a struggling artist should be aware of? Is it an individual mindset or does it equate more to opportunity? Or is it something all together different in your opinion?
EXXASENS: That’s a great question. We believe it’s a mix of mindset, persistence, and timing. There are moments where everything aligns—where your creative vision, your energy, and the right opportunities come together. For us, some of those key moments were collaborations with labels and festivals that helped us reach new audiences. But it’s also about consistency and staying true to your sound. It’s easy to get discouraged by challenges, but if you’re always working to evolve, pushing boundaries, and remaining authentic, you’re already taking steps toward that next level.

CV: What do you feel an artist can do right now to stay relevant, especially in an environment, such as the present, where performing in front of a live audience is not an option?
EXXASENS: In times when live shows aren’t possible, connecting with fans online becomes essential. We've focused on releasing content that invites listeners into our creative world—studio footage, personal stories, and behind-the-scenes glimpses of our recording process. Another key is staying active in releasing new material, whether it’s full albums, singles, or even collaborations. Social media, too, is a powerful tool for keeping that connection alive. Engaging with fans through honest, regular updates helps maintain relevance, even if live shows aren’t possible.

CV: What have you found to be the balancing point between relevance and over saturation when it comes to being an artist? Is there a fine line between the two or can it be looked at to some degree as the two essentially being one in the same?
EXXASENS: That’s definitely a tricky balance. We try to avoid releasing content just for the sake of staying visible. Instead, we focus on creating material that genuinely reflects where we are as artists. It’s tempting to post constantly, but it can lead to over-saturation if there’s no real substance behind it. For us, it’s more meaningful to let things breathe and make sure that each release or update has something authentic and fresh. That way, when we share something, fans know it’s worth their attention.

CV: Is there any level of consideration, or even concern, to deliver on expectations, whether it being your own or that of the fans, when working on new material?
EXXASENS: Absolutely. We always want to evolve, but we also want to stay true to the sound and themes that resonate with our fans. Each album brings a bit of pressure to deliver something that feels both familiar and new. It’s a balance—creating music that stays true to our roots while still pushing ourselves creatively. In the end, we try to focus on what feels right for us as a band, trusting that the authenticity will connect with the fans.

CV: For you, what’s first when it comes to songwriting…is it a matter of lyrics melody, chords, beat, attitude? Or is it more organic than that where the moment dictates the process and outcome?
EXXASENS: For us, honesty in songwriting comes from capturing pure emotion without the need for words. As an instrumental post-rock and post-metal band, we rely on melodies, dynamics, and textures to tell stories and convey emotions. Each song is like a journey, and we try to build soundscapes that let the listener interpret and feel the music in their own way. This freedom in interpretation creates a unique, personal connection between us and the audience. When a listener can attach their own memories, feelings, or experiences to a piece of music, that’s when it becomes truly impactful. We believe that the honesty comes through when the music is raw and unfiltered, expressing what we feel as musicians and leaving space for listeners to make it their own.

CV: What do you believe makes songwriting more honest and impactful...that something that both the artist and listener can share?
EXXASENS: For us, honesty in songwriting comes from capturing pure emotion without the need for words. As an instrumental post-rock and post-metal band, we rely on melodies, dynamics, and textures to tell stories and convey emotions. Each song is like a journey, and we try to build soundscapes that let the listener interpret and feel the music in their own way. This freedom in interpretation creates a unique, personal connection between us and the audience.

In some of our concerts, we’ve seen people moved to tears, feeling sadness or deep emotion, and that’s incredibly powerful for us. When listeners can attach their own memories, feelings, or experiences to a piece of music, that’s when it becomes truly impactful. We believe that the honesty comes through when the music is raw and unfiltered, expressing what we feel as musicians and leaving space for listeners to make it their own. Moments like that remind us of the universality of music and why we do what we do.
CV: What do you feel has been the greatest contribution to your success as an artist?
EXXASENS: Persistence and passion. We’ve faced our share of challenges, but our love for the music and our belief in what we’re doing keeps us moving forward. Staying open to new opportunities, collaborating with others, and constantly pushing ourselves to grow have also been key. Success doesn’t come overnight; it’s built through hard work, adaptability, and staying true to our vision.

CV: What's next for you? What can fans expect to see coming up?
EXXASENS: We have some exciting things on the horizon! Our new album is set to release on November 8th, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone. This record feels like an evolution for us, and we’re thrilled for fans to hear the new directions we’ve explored.

On top of that, we’re excited to announce that some of our music will be featured in an upcoming Amazon series premiering next year. It’s a huge opportunity for us to reach new listeners, and we’re honored that our music will be part of a new storytelling format.

And, of course, we’re hoping to bring this new album to the stage soon. Performing live is something we truly miss, and we’re looking forward to connecting with fans in person again. It’s going to be an amazing next chapter for EXXASENS, and we’re so grateful for all the support that’s brought us to this point!

CV: Thank you again for spending some time talking and sharing with
our readers. I wish you all the best and continued success.
EXXASENS: Thank you so much! It was a pleasure speaking with you. We appreciate the support and are excited to keep sharing our music with everyone.

My name is Mick Michaels...I'm an artist, music fan, songwriter, producer, show host, dreamer and guitarist for the traditional Heavy Metal band Corners of Sanctuary. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me; what I couldn't say in speech, I was able to do with the written word.  Writing has given me a voice and a way for me to create on a multitude of platforms including music and song, articles, independent screenplays, books and now, artist interviews. The Cosmick View is an opportunity to raise the bar and showcase artists in a positive and inspirational light. For me, it's another out-of-this-world adventure.
